There's quality and then there's Top Shelf Mad Dog quality. If I ran this place there would be a Mad Dog/Hooters sub forum.

hahaha, I haven't been here long but can already appreciate the classic Mad Dog posts, they were the first things that grabbed me about this place 馃憤

Its driven by the price increases of the speedmasters.

Resale on used Omega watches seems like it is trending down. For example, the SM300 MC on the used market was a year/year an half was almost $4k. Now you can buy $3,500. Similar for GSOTM and many other modern Omegas. They seem to be ever so slightly declining in price. Vintage Seamasters seem to be increasing, but no were close to what the speedy is doing. Speedmasters (and a few others makes/brands) are simply out of control, at least on a percentage increase.

Everyone and their Mom is jumping on the speedy bandwagon. Much like the real estate market back in 2005/6/.
Happy to hear that some / any omega prices are dropping!

Its not Speedmasters and never was, its sports chronographs in general. Check out Zeniths like the A386, the Heuer Carreras / Autavias, Rolex Daytonas, Universal Geneve Space Compax and Nina Rindts, Enicar, A&F, Longines, Breitling, the prices on vintage sports chronographs from every brand of significance and even less significant ones like Valjoux 72 Zodiacs have gone through the roof to the point that people are getting priced out of the market.

I currently own 2 Speedmasters and about 30 odd other watches, nearly all of which are dress watches like Seamaster Piepans, Ultimas, Cal 320 dress chronographs, an A386, Geneves, Seamasters, Constellations etc etc.

If you want to see some more on them its easy, just start a thread on the topic of a watch model you're interested in and people will join in. There are a crazy number of Constellation and Seamaster collectors here and plenty of younger guys with their first Geneve or Deville too so people will definitely appreciate it.

I have said it before but its worth repeating...

If you don't think the balance is right, don't sit around moaning, write some posts that say what you want to see.
Lead by example, don't just sit and criticise.

@UncleBuck I love reading your posts, but you have not started a single watch thread this year - which is a shame because I know you have great knowledge in areas I do not. So you are guilty of precisely what you are lamenting - failure of members to contribute interesting and varied threads.

How can you expect other forum members to write interesting watch posts if you yourself do not? All you are doing by this thread is encouraging others in precisely the direction you do not want the forum to go in.

And frankly who cares if there are lots of speedy posts - its a gateway drug right? Hook them in and next thing you know they will be sidling up to you going "Hey, know where I can get a 120?"

But do you know where I can get a 120? There seem to be so many fakes around...

Would echo what @Spacefruit has said. People tend to talk about what they know about - for most the Speedmaster is the first Omega they encounter. I would love to read and learn about the other less well-know Omega watches.

Although, be careful what you wish for - when a model becomes better known it becomes more desirable and may start pricing people out of the market 馃槈

There are watches for specific brands that are iconic, and for Omega that is the Speedmaster. The Seamaster and most other watches they make have been changed so much that they don't really have the same impact as the Speedmaster does because of it's continuity.

Coming to an Omega forum and complaining about too many Speedmaster posts is like going to a Rolex forum and complaining about too many Submariner posts. Both companies have many more watches in their lines worthy of discussion, but you will have a hard time with that complaint. Tilting at windmills...

And I agree with Spacefuit also - there are two ways to change the ratio of Speedmaster to "other" watch posts. I encouraged Dennis many times to start posts about the watches he wanted to see discussed, and in response he started more posts about Speedmasters instead to rile up the forum. Maybe he's now on a Rolex forum somewhere complaining about Submariner posts...who knows...

Cheers, Al

I agree with almost everything you write, but for the love of God keep people away from all the other Omegas! I have a hard time with the competition as it is! 馃榿

Great point....and I do have a couple recent buys I could talk about.
I'm on vacation with the Grandkids right now, but I promise a new thread when I get back!

It's very gratifying how positive everyone is, I expected death threats!

Awesome I look forward to it too! There's been a few really interesting ones you might have missed by the way and a few that got tacked onto old threads like @Mods acquiring an Ultima identical to mine at an auction lately though IIRC he hasn't actually taken deliver yet.

I think we should have many more Speedmaster threads.

Dials
Hands
Cases
Movements
Bracelets

Keep em coming

Nothing to see in the Omega dress watch market.
Move along now....

On any given day it is possible to avoid working by participating in, initiating or lurking on threads covering Longines, Omega, UG, Heuer, Zenith, IWC, Rolex, Gallet, Enicar , Movado, JLC, VC, Patek. Independents etc. Music, Dogs, Food, Travel, Wives, Kids, Photography......The list is endless. So too much speedy content? Nah!

Coincidentally, I might move this one on over the next couple of months. They are out there in fair condition but the prices seem to have been dragged up dramatically with the better known models. The worst issues are the bezel which is unobtainable and damaged dials/hands. Apart from that, just a 565 inside so no major problems.

They're a nice watch to wear being a lot thinner than an SM300 but I think I prefer my SM60. I seem to prefer blue dialled divers (this year anyway).馃槈 Shown with my wife's Bordeaux coloured SM60. If I ever get one in the same colour but in the men's model, they'll be a bit of the Howard and Hilda going on.馃榿 Sadly, I am on the lookout...

Cheers, Chris

My mail is on vacation hold, I'll pick it up when I get home, carefully, very carefully.
