Speedy Edition Reference Guide

Hello forum.

I continue to research all things Speedmaster in prep for my first (for me) "big" watch purchase. The many Speedy limited editions and reference numbers can be a bit overwhelming so I was curious if this group had a go-to guide they use to quickly and concisely understand the differences. I have a good sense for what I'm looking for at this point, but having a quick reference would be super helpful. (I tried a search within these forums but didn't see anything, so apologies if this topic has been exhaustively covered)

I found this database that I think is a great start, and in part is what prompted the question:

https://watchbase.com/omega/speedmaster?sort=ref

Thanks as always for any insight!

Think carefully about this purchase. Speedmasters are like crack; there will be no turning back...

Ha! Good tip. I keep saying this'll be it for me, but I have a feeling it's just going to pique my interest even more.

Vintage or modern is your first decision. I thought I wanted vintage but my first SM was new and is my daily nicker. +1 speedmaster101.com

Try these also and follow the rabbit hole:

Edit 2.0: sorry, these are not quick references as you asked for. However, they will lead to references. Also, if you are thinking vintage, do not overlook your local dealer. It is tempting (and fun) to search on your own for a decent deal. But dealers often get access to nice watches that people bring to them because they were family watches. You may pay a little more nominally but you may get a better watch.
