Speedy choice

Hi all.

I'm in strong doubts about two options of Speedmaster:

1. Moonwatch SS.
2. 57 with sandwich dial.

I really don't care a lot about price difference and space fairytale (otherwise I buy Sturmanskie).

Wrist size - 7.5 inches.
Racing looks a bit thick. Manual winding is not a problem. Date absence is more a plus - easier to set a watch.

What are your thoughts?

I found the numbers on the '57 bezel quite invisible giving it different look to the watch, the lugs and endlinks are also designed in a way it looks too big on the wrist, so moonwatch would be my choice, just perfect.

It really comes down to which style you prefer - the classic chronograph layout and stick hands, or the broad arrow hands and new two-register layout.

Otherwise, either would be a great choice in my opinion. One thing, if you do plan to time things on a regular basis (especially things under 30 minutes), I think the classic Speedy Pro layout is far easier to read.

I like both styles. But my eyes are not perfect already - some problems with tiny details. I hardly see the date on my Aquaterra without glasses.

Try them both on at an AD or OB and see which one is more compelling. Both are usually in stock. I never found the two dial layout that attractive, but that's just personal preference.

It's possible I'm wrong but I find 99xx movement more interesting.

I empathize with your dilemma; it's nearly impossible to decide which Speedmaster to possibly add to my watchbox! The sandwich dial on that 57 is a compelling feature, but does it stack up against the Pro? Only you can tell...

Try them both and if you still can't decide then take the moonwatch.
You actually can't go wrong with this, maybe it also sells better if it comes to that.
Is it for daily use or do you rotate between other watches?
I'm not sure if the faux patina would work for me on a daily beater.

If you don't need a date complication, the layout and legibility of the moonwatch work well.
maybe consider a '57 trilogy (I believe there's one for sale in the marketplace)--a little more expensive tho similar vibe as the above '57 but conventional speedmaster layout and no date (3 subdials) as well as SS back.

I have Aquaterra Small Seconds, Raketa Sputnik 1 and some others to choose. I think every new watch will be a part of rotation cycle)

The killer choice for me is Moonwatch with manual 99xx onboard. As for '57 trilogy - I'm not a big fan of old movements. '57 looks interesting mostly for sandwich dial and new movement.

No doubt for me.... speedmaster=3 sub dials.
So... my choice is done...😉

The Aquaterra is a nice looking watch... with broad arrow hand like the 57-model. IMO the speedy would be the right choice but in the end only you can decide.

My Raketa says hello... my speedy too 😀

You know it’s the standard Moon Watch with Hesalite and solid case back.
Get over the something else stuff and buy the real deal.

The 1861 is only "old" by a few years, and the 3861 isn't assumed by all to be a superior movement. Newer, yes.
Otherwise if you want a sandwich dial and don't care about the "space fairytale" stuff try the 3861 sapphire sandwich.
Or since you don't care about the "space fairytale" (which is part of the inherent draw of the watch) go for something with less fairytale lore/history/pedigree.

To be clear I'm from the country with own rich space history and local space watches. That's why Moonwatch's magic is not so strong on me. It doesn't matter that MW has a great history - I really respect all NASA and Omega wins. But is this case I look on Moonwatch like on a watch. I like new movements and materials but some vintage designs look still great.
I really like both watches and don't hurry to make a choice. But now see most vote for MW)
