I have always been into Seamasters but recently am looking towards a Speedy. I do want one with a date function, what are your suggestions? I am not interesting in straps, I prefer steel bracelets and an exhibition caseback.
Thanks

And you want to know what exactly? You can find all Speedmasters on Omega's website, pick the one you like most, nobody here should decide that for you.

If you read my post you would see that I was looking for suggestions. I said that’s because I wanted some information from someone that’s owned something like this. I am fully capable of making my own decisions, but I find that owner information is much better than what you can read on the website. Thank you

There is no “real” Speedmaster with date. The Sides of the moon as well as the steel version with the 9300 movement do what you want, the reduced also has a date. I like the sides personally and sold the day date reduced I had, one of the few watches I got rid of as it simply didn’t sit right. I’d suggest to get a Speedmaster and skip the date.

If I hadn't read your post I wouldn't have commented. The thing is that your question is too broad and the more people will jump in on this the more confused you will get.

It's like saying, I want a BMW and it needs to have an automatic transmission. The first response you will get from a fan is that a "real" BMW doesn't come with an automatic transmission (see the post from drhex above). And aside from those criteria the product range is so broad that it comes down to personal preference and not to what an owner or whoever else might suggest.

Since you have decided it can be more than a year old then just browse the Omega website and pick one. If you wanted opinions here is my choice 376.0822 to bad its a few years old.

The Grail speedy is not a real speedy? The MK40?
Don’t confuse Speedmaster Professional with Speedmaster.

I’ll also throw out this “non” speedmaster… I’ll stop storing it with my manual wind speedmasters as it’s not a real speedmaster. I’m sure my 45 year old 145.022 -76 will miss his little Brother and my ST2 will miss his older brother.

i mean it’s too bad with a Column wheel and being chrono rated it’s technically a better watch then the 861…

You should really consider recycling it, there are very few places that can properly recycle a watch, I happen to live near one. I’d be happy to drop it off for you, just send it over to me and I’ll take care of it. Gotta protect that environment.

Well I'll be darned, here I thought a forum was to share and get opinions from other members, thanks so much for your valuable input.

I wear a DSOTM. Wonderful watch, ceramic though with a strap. Of course, if it has to be steel, this will not float your boat. It has a display back. But I recommend to try one if you have the opportunity. You might be positively surprised. I would not bother to much what a 'real' Speedy is. Unless you want 'the' moonwatch. Then one might reconsider the choice.

I'm with you on this, all my watches must have a date function. I've locked in on a GSoTM as my first Speedy, just a matter of when I pull the trigger on one. For you that won't work as the xSoTMs do not have bracelet options as they are ceramic cased watches. You could go with a cal 9300 Speedy, that would tick your boxes. I know you said that you don't want it to be more than a year or so old, not sure if they can be found new nowadays, but on the used market they are usually relatively cheap. Another option would be something from the Racing line, but that doesn't have the "classic" Speedy look you might be after. Good luck!!!

There were “real” Speedmasters (I.e., manual wind, 1861-based caliber) with a moon and date function. But they haven’t been sold for at least 10 years or so.

Wow missed your pretty dickish response. What if he wants an older piece Speedy with a Date.
Ike the Grail someone posted above. Or a MK 40?

My pseudo Speedy with a faux GMT complication and retro-fitted micro-adjustable clasp. What a mutt!
