Exactly! Precisely like if you twist a rubber donuts.
It’s kind of encouraging to see I’m not the only one.
Anyway, I didn’t wind the watch yesterday evening, and this morning was still running, which means it ran for about 24 hours.
So probably it’s not a broken mainspring luckily : )
I’ll keep you updated if I find something out
Likewise.

The sound is like an o-ring is being squeezed on rotating the crown. I wonder if it’s a gasket on the crown?

My watch runs fine and keeps decent time. I wind every morning.

The crown does have a gasket, so I suspect this is what you are hearing, especially since they are both new watches. I also suspect you both are on the younger side and have better hearing than a lot of us, and so can better detect the higher tones. I listened to the video with my 50-year-old ears and didn’t notice anything unusual.

Hmm but why then only at the end of the winding?

I will turn 53 next week I too couldn’t hear the sound on the OP video. I can’t figure out how to post a video to this site, but on my watch it’s quite an obvious sound.

I have a Speedmaster 60th that makes the same O-ring rubbing sound near the end of winding. It has done this since it was new. I also have a 145.022 69 that does not make this sound.

I had always assumed it was something to do with the mainspring getting tight. It has never bothered me, but now that this thread exists I'm curious what it is in the 1861 that makes this sound.

My 1861 was bought new in April 2019. It only started squeaking a couple of months ago, not from day 1. That is why I am concerned.

It also has a lot to do with the frequency range of your playback device(s). I couldn't hear it on the computer's external cheapish speakers, but it was fine on moderately priced headphones. I'm 71 😗

With the only variable inside being the tension of the Mainspring. On the balance of probability it's just rubbing a little inside at the very end of the wind, thus generating the sound.

Is it possible it's always made a bit of a sound and you've only noticed it in recent times?
Now that you are fully aware, you are focused on it.

Quite frankly I wouldn't be very concerned as the sound is probably being generated inside the barrel with no potential I'll effects to the movement for the life of the component.
Also it's a subtle audible indicator that you are very close to a full wind.
Theoretically one could stop winding at that point and it won't have any effect on day to day functionality.

I have a brand new Moonwatch with the same thing. Just the last few turns it is not the same sound as he 60-ish turns before. No idea how to describe I but I thought this would no be relevant an never paid attention to it before I read this thread. Mine is two months old. Interesting to see how this search for “the sound of 2020” ends....

Agreed.
Now that makes 3 of them.
I'd be willing to say there's nothing in it as all the watches are seemingly running fine regardless👍

I hope all of your watch's problems end with the "sound of silence"... I have aviation related hearing loss, so I did not hear it.

Update:
some time ago I went to the watchmaker, who said that it was nothing to worry about, and that if you arrive at the end of the winding run it's normal some stuff is going to be forced.
Of course I am not satisfied at all with this explanation.
In any case, I made a better recording of the sound and am uploading it here if somebody like @Archer wants to have a closer hear at it:

Thank you for any clarification!

Thank you for your answer Archer, but then why does it do that only at the end of the winding?
And why did the sound appear only after some months I had the watch?

Sorry - I don't know what it is you are hearing, so I can't help you...I'm not hearing anything that I would say is squealing...

No problem, I will wait for this evening and make another recording of normal winding sound, and arrive all the way to the end where it will make the "squeaking" sound.
I know this is probably an overreaction, but I'm anyway in quarantine so have a lot of time in my hands : )
I will upload it here, so if you are curious you can check it Archer, thank you in any case

I heard nothing out of the ordinary. Many experts here, but you need to get the watch into the HANDS of an expert with bionic hearing!

I don’t think it’s overreacting. My watch didn’t make this sound for the first 8 months of its life, and now it does. I have several watches including another manual wind with eta movement, this sound is not normal.

I will send my speedy to swatch when this pandemic is over.
