Hi everyone, newbie here and would like opinions about getting a speedmaster reduced.

People are saying that they are expensive to service ( around $700 ) because of the DD chrono module, but what I wished to know is how reliable this watch actually is? And how often do i need to send this watch for a service?

I've came across a reputable Japanese seller on Chrono24 and they claimed that they had overhauled the watch 2 months ago, does this means that i don't have to send the watch for service anytime soon?

Same as any other watch, if you don't beat it up they work fine and service is something like 5-7 years. Maybe with modern lubricants that can be stretched a touch. We have a gen-u-ine watchmaker here who has one and might comment. Mine runs like a train.

Paperwork, paperwork, paperwork that can be traced to watchmaker and their reputation checked. No paperwork -> not serviced.

Service for any non-vintage non-precious metal chronograph by Omega is $750 - this is no different if it is a Speedmaster Pro or reduced. So, in that case it is no more expensive to service than a regular Speedmaster.

the issue arises if you try to use an independent watchmaker. Many refuse to service these types of movements, so your only option is to send it to Omega.

FWIW, though, many independents charge the same amount Omega charges anyway (I know mine does). No matter what people say, I have never had a chronograph serviced by an independent in the last decade for under $700.

in 2015 Seamaster (quartz 1342) £425 by Omega
2016 Heuer Carrera (Valjoux 7730) £230 inc mainspring Indy
2016 Zodiac 7721 (Valjoux 7733) £215 inc mainspring Indy
2016 Speedy Reduced (1140 + DD) £379 inc mainspring Indy
2017 Hamilton chrono-matic (1969 original Cal 11) £333 - inc parts & mainspring Indy

But as our Prime Minister wants to raise skill levels and pay in this country I'm expecting prices to go up 🙁 Or are watchmakers at a damn high skill level already? I think they are and I happily pay their bills.

wish I lived near your watchmakers, because I’ve never found one near me servicing chronos for so little!
