getting inside a fuel cell,

I might have misjudged you. Are you talking race car fuel cell stuff? If so and coming from a fellow race driver I say f@#k the watch up as much as you like, as racing is way more ridiculous and I'm guilty as sin 馃榿

Aircraft fuel cells. Race cars would be cool too but that requires some more income. And time

I had always just assumed that every pin and tube gets replaced during a service. Worrying about the life of the bracelet is the primary reason I鈥檝e started wearing mine on an omega nato lately

Typically they would be. But they only last so long, and if the bracelet is more dirty (not regularly cleaned in a meaningful way) the dirt and grit that gets into it will accelerate the wear.

Given how you have described your use of the watch, and only two services in 19 years, I鈥檓 not all that surprised that a pin gave way.

Note that the links themselves will also wear out over time, so at some point pins and tubes won鈥檛 be enough to save the bracelet.

Cheers, Al

This is one of the best posts I've read in a long time. I'd love to have one watch I wear for everything and in 20 years it would have 20 years of my life stamped on it.

But I live a decadent life where I have too many watches to have any one get this kind of experience...

Some people will only own 1 watch. I am one of those people, l'm lucky in the fact that with no real idea of what l wanted other than a decent watch when l walked into a jewelers in 2004 l picked an Omega.
For 50 pounds more l could have had a Snoopy, that watch was sat at the side of mine.
Knowing l wanted a watch l could wear everyday l picked this one. No regrets because someone else has a collectable valuable Snoopy and l have mine.

Next time someone asks if he could wear his 300m Submariner safely to the pool or steam room, I'll just post this thread as a reply. Kudos to you OP!

...or even, "Is it okay to wash my hands with my Sub on?"

"Chapeau" Daniel! You have convinced me that a Speedy can be my daily watch, perhaps my only watch, but my grandfather's gold retirement watch will still be there for formal needs. Looking forward to acquiring my Speedy, you have made the final decision easy. Thank you sir.

Let's see how you feel after coughing up the dough to buy one. Hopefully you'll take it off when doing stupid shit. 馃榿
