Hi everyone,

I have a 1996 Speedmaster Professional with 861 movement. I bought it nealry 18 months ago and it was meant to have been serviced. I wear it every day because i love it and I was doing some plumbing work and some water fell on me about 250 ml or enough water to fill in a S-pipe. We are not talking about a lot of water and I certainly did not immerse the watch in any water. I was working in a damp environment and I noticed that my speedmaster had begun to fog up and would continue to fog up over the next couple of days. I put the watch in a bed of rice face down and I opened the crown. I decided to open the case back and remove the dial.

So now I have a dial attached to the movement (which is a work of art and it is a pity that it is covered) and the case with the crystal intact.

The pushers have been removed but not the springs in the pushers nor the part that holds them in place. I don't want to remove too many things.

Just for peace of mind where do I find a diagram or video instruction of what seals should be with the watch? I am thinking the moisture must have come in from the pushers. I can't seem to find any seals on the pushers but then again I am not sure where the seals should be located.

The seal on the caseback seems OK.

Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks for reading the post.

My opinion. Since you planned to have it serviced anyway, just send it in for a service and the watchmaker will service it AND replace all the gaskets properly. Don’t just replace the gaskets yourself and leave the movement unserviced if there has been any water intrusion.

The watch was serviced 18 months ago. I bought the watch serviced. So I just want to replace anything that is obvious and missing.

Regardless of whether it was meant to have been serviced, it is clearly not water resistant now. You need to have it serviced with pressure testing by a competent watchmaker to determine where the problem lies, crown, pushers, crystal or caseback gasket.

If the seals were bad or missing, perhaps the watch was not actually serviced. Just something to consider.

There should be a case back seal of course. There’s also a seal inside the crown.

There are seals inside each pusher tube.

Apologies. The phrase “meant to be serviced” in English implies you intended to have it serviced, not that you actually had it serviced. With that said, as others have pointed out, it is a little suspicious that after a proper service the seals failed. You state that you “bought it serviced.” Many sellers claim this, but there version of a service is making sure it works and regulating it so it appears to be keeping good time.

Personally, if I purchase a used watch and I don’t have proof it was a serviced by a real watchmaker (I.e., a receipt or it comes from a well-known dealer with watchmakers on staff), I expect to have it serviced myself. I still think this is your better option based on the new facts you have presented.

Are these all of the seals. Is there anyone reputable that I can buy a pack of seals for 1996 Omega Speedmaster from? I just want to replace the seals for peace of mind and see how I go?

You can’t change the seals in the pushers. The entire pusher assembly is replaced.
You either need to be a watchmaker with an Omega parts account or buy them in the open market such as eBay

There is not kit of seals. In fact the only seal that Omega sells for this is the case back seal. The crown and pusher seals are sold as part of the crown and pushers, not separately.
