Assuming that Omega do issue a 321 in SS, and that it has a specification something along the lines of;

Ceramic bezel with a DON,
Sapphire case back to view the movement
Longer indices on a retro 321 dial
50th Anniversary SS Bracelet

What do people think it would cost, would it be more than the £7370, €8214 or $9215 of the SS 50th, about the same, less?

I'll take a punt at, £8985, €10,000 or $11235

Note: Currency converted from sterling prices to euro and dollars and not necessarily what the 50th sold for outside the UK

Difference on moonphase platinum vs steel was €37k so accounting for meteorite in platinum I guess €18k

I love the idea of the moon meteorite material being included, but it mars the legibility of the subdials. Aesthetic details vs. the Speedmaster's legendary usability as a tool watch. I can't help but think what the Apollo 13 astronauts would have said if Swigert's Speedy was difficult to read. Yeah, I know, I know, they used the second hand and not the subdials. But compromising the Speedmaster's purity of design as a tool watch bothers me. Given the price of this SE model and it's limited availability the issue is moot for me. Moot for most of us.

pie pan step dial and moon rock subdials are a nice touch. i don't think they screwed anything up on this one. $50k starting price??

After seeing some good closeups, I've changed my mind. The subdials are legible enough, and of lesser importance, so that the aesthetic compromise of using meteor material is not so off-putting. I think I'd actually love to have one. Still not happening, but none the less, it's a winner.

Alligator strap on a Speedmaster is a little off-putting to me, understandable on a platinum to not put it over the top price wise but the Apollo 11 SS besuits the SMP the best.

If it was steel I’d be after one, but platinum is out of my budget unfortunately.

From MWO:
100th of a second is common so don't really understand the use in this minute bezel.

An interesting watch...
I guess that omega chose not to make it a limited edition in order to have something that compares to the platinum Daytona (without the bracelet and, in my opinion a better movement)
😀

If they do a 321 in white gold (or steel of course) I’ll be scrambling for funds!

It's not limited. 2k a year. Steel coming.

The Speedmaster Moonwatch 321 Platinum (ref. 311.93.42.30.99.001) is slated to be delivered in fall 2019, but the price has yet to be announced. Expect it to be in the region of 60,0000 Swiss francs.

The Speedmaster Moonwatch 321 Platinum is not a limited edition, but Omega has indicated only 2000 cal. 321 movements will be produced each year. With the upcoming cal. 321-powered watch that will probably be a more affordable model in steel, the platinum Moonwatch will no doubt account for a minority of the 2000 movements a year.

Also there must be some reason for the short sticks right? So weird , did the original have that ro something? Otherwise it seriously makes no sense to do that at the bottom left.

Why not just make this? The old hands were waaaaay better

Is this a poster or print can buy?

I find the limited editions just a little too “cheesy”. This is sooooo much more subtle. If I had this kind of money I would buy. Remortgage the house?...
This is because unlike most of the limited editions, they didn't put something unique into the 9 o'clock subdial. Omega is much more successful (in my view) with balanced designs like this.

Platinum used to be more expensive than gold but not since the last few years and now gold is significantly higher per oz, see below. White Gold is an alloy of gold with mostly added palladium, and palladium is even more expensive than gold.

Even taking into account the higher density of platinum, the metal cost in a WG watch is probably more than for an equivalent platinum watch so don't hold your breath for a "cheap" white gold 321.

BTW, this may be why Omega is choosing platinum instead of WG in new white precious metal watches - eg. Speedmaster Moonphases, this 321.

One factor you need to include is density. For a case of the same dimensions and therefore same volume of material, Plat weighs around 30% more and as it is priced by weight costs 30% more than a 18K gold case if the two metals were priced the same. That said, 18K gold costs 40% more per gram than Plat 950 at present so you are correct in that a gold case is more expensive to make on a like for like basis. Yes good quality white 18K is made with maybe 10% Palladium but you can make passable white gold using silver or even copper with a few % of cheaper white metals, often it is then Rhodium plated to make it whither. As noted, they charge more for a Plat cased model than gold because they can, not because it costs them more. The raw material in a pm Speedy case probably costs circa £2K/$2500 max, so whatever metal is used doesn't justify a circa $50K price tag, it is the cachet.
