I don't get the short indices - that seems like a seriously boneheaded design decision with everything else that went into this.

It's not limited. 2k a year. Steel coming.

The Speedmaster Moonwatch 321 Platinum (ref. 311.93.42.30.99.001) is slated to be delivered in fall 2019, but the price has yet to be announced. Expect it to be in the region of 60,0000 Swiss francs.

The Speedmaster Moonwatch 321 Platinum is not a limited edition, but Omega has indicated only 2000 cal. 321 movements will be produced each year. With the upcoming cal. 321-powered watch that will probably be a more affordable model in steel, the platinum Moonwatch will no doubt account for a minority of the 2000 movements a year.

Also there must be some reason for the short sticks right? So weird , did the original have that ro something? Otherwise it seriously makes no sense to do that at the bottom left.

Why not just make this? The old hands were waaaaay better

Looks beautiful, but I don't get why anyone would get this over a very nice vintage at a fraction of the price...

I like it a lot too. Just not sure how big the market is for £40-50k speedies, not that it matters to me as way out of my price bracket.

Maybe there will be a steel one later. God knows where they will price that....

This release makes me happy. I feared a beautiful seamaster case or some kind of Ed White reedition… This release has a sense of déjà vu. It will be expensive and it just smells pure marketing. At 10K CHF, USD, EUR… you name it, I would not buy it. The worst detail is the possibly the strap. If there is one material that fits the speedmaster the least, it is croco. Far too dressy.

Called it again 😁

21 July != 20 July, even in your timezone 😉 Close but no cigar...they are upping their game...

I’m happy because this did not get released on a Tuesday via Instagram.

So serious collectors and enthusiasts who have relationships with OBs and ADs have a chance of getting one - without being glued to their phone on Tuesdays in the hope they will get a 20min window in which to frantically order it.

Looking forward to the steel.

😁😁😁😁😁

Ha ha ha ha, that's awesome...so they actually DID do it, a few hours (about 2) after I edited the title of this thread and my original text (21'st July 2019, the day after (GMT+1), but no doubtedly the evening of the 20th Houston time, another great nod), whilst we slept ...well played Omega, well played.

And it sure is a looker...first 321 with a display caseback.

So you didn’t get the pre press release on the 20th......... 😉

So there will be a steel version later this year. Also this is the 50th for the Apollo 12, which Omega will also surely want to celebrate with a couple of limited editions. Could 2019 be the year with most Speedmasters released? We are at three now not counting the Rory McIlroy edition and potentialet others (?).

My guess is that we will have seen five Speedy Moon watches released by the time we hit 2020.

Short indices on a 321 reboot...with a teardrop sweep.

Come on Omega...

I don't get the short indices - that seems like a seriously boneheaded design decision with everything else that went into this.

That makes two of you.

I got the wrong time fixed on the 50th box so you all just let me know if you really need long indices on this one and I'll see what I can do.👍

The same reason why people buy new 911s over classic air-cooled ones... Different emotions, different customer target.

Please do, before it's too late ::facepalm1:: At the least I'd like to know why Omega decides on the short indices.

Wonder how it would look with a white dial, but I have no photoshop skills ...

Marketing 101 if people are making money selling 50K watches that you made years ago and get no profits for it. Make a 50K watch and make profit yourself.

And

Over the years here, I would say more than half of the newer members in the last few years are from the modern side that only find after joining that the vintage side exists and the depth of it. ( which I have seen so many enter the vintage realm once exposed to it )

And

The vintage Speedmaster is slowly becoming a minefield of pieced together parts like Rolex became 10 years ago.

Can I ask a dumbass question? What is it people are seeing about the sub dial indices they don't like? I know the indices changed from the earliest straight lug watches, they got longer but I am looking at the photo of the plat watch with my Pre-Moon 145 in hand and while there are clearly differences due to the metoerite backdrop, can't see what you all mean.

EDIT, now have realised you mean the hour indices which are the later 861 movement short type instead of the infinitely preferable longer 321 type. Agreed that ain't wonderful. What mildly annoys me though is that they chose to use 105 pushers on the gold 50th watch which was a homage to a 145.022 model with bigger pushers. Dont they think these things through? Or do they mix it up to leave a little meat on the bone for the original watch?

very beautiful, can't wait to see the pricing for the S/S version. But next year's 50th Snoopy is enticing as well

I think homage watches are designed by modern designers, who aren't historians. They are just trying to sell new watches.

Platinum... so basically, it's another 321 watch for the people already bidding in the 6-figures for vintage 321s, only new

😡

I'm sure they will sell these

I have no idea to who

I cannot for the life of me name one collector of 6 figure speedies or vintage watches who would buy this

Resale value does ultimately matter.. Look at the collapse in secondary market values for lange and the struggle they are having for what are still stunningly made watches

Maybe they end up in Asia... Lots of new pateks do

Re long vs short indices, this watch is about bringing back the 321 movement, not resurrecting dials with long indices. Omega is telling us the heroes of the dial are the meteorite subdials and the onyx. Once they’re both locked in, they don’t want too many distractions elsewhere on the dial to shift focus. That’s why they might have gone with short indices. Thankfully they didnt overlay the 9 o’clock meteorite with a Buzz butt which would have killed the watch.
