Speedmaster Mkii glass replacement plus bracelet question.

Hi all,

I've had my Speedy Mkii for around 6 years now but haven't worn it a great deal due to not having the correct bracelet for it (it was on a lesthee rslly strap which I felt just didn't suit the watch at all). I've just acquired a used braclet which I think is legit, but my main query is regarding glass replacement.

My watch has plenty of patina to it which I don't want to alter, but the glass has a crack in it. It's not a scratch as I can feel it with my fingernail as I run across it.

Given that the Tachymetre bezel is internal on the mkii, does this mean that a glass replacement also means a bezel replacement or are the two separate? I don't want to change anything on the dial and lose the patina of the watch but I'm obviously mindful of the crack in the glass. The crack can be seen just above the 9 o'clock position.

Secondary to this, thoughts on the bracelet I've just acquired. Legit vintage or modern replacement? It's marked as 1162/1/173 which I believe is correct for a mkii of this era (without cracking the case back open to check the serial no, I think the watch is around 1972 ish. It's got plenty of wear marks on it which suits the watch.

Thanks in advance, James.

Tachymeter is printed on the back of the crystal, it's not a separate piece.

If you want to go through an authorized Omega service provider, they may require the replacement of the crystal as part of a service. The crystals on these are mineral glass and not sapphire so they do scratch- it may be a deep scratch and not a crack if you don’t see it go all the way through. There are several sellers on eBay selling crystals for these - authenticity of said crystals are questionable. And there is a gasket for the crystal as well that would need to be replaced.

Your watchmaker will also require a special "forcing cone" which is required to enable insertion of the crystal into the gasket/case.

Many thanks for replies.

If you find a Pulsometer scale one, buy that . Rare and increases the value.

Interesting. I've never seen a Pulsometer version of the mkii. Thanks for the info.

Not mine but just so you can say you’ve seen one 👍
