Hi all, please see the attached pics of this Speedmaster Mark ii. Is it nice enough to shell out 2000$ on? Original dial, parts and brush? Cheers

It looks to me as if there has been a lot of over polishing to the case. The glass is not meant to stick out as far from the case as this one does - that suggests that the case has had a lot of metal removed through polishing (and then the brushing added at a later date).

...And look at how thin the case is at the corners of the "hole" for the bracelet at the top and bottom of the case. This one has definitely been grinded to oblivion.

I would agree that much metal has been removed in the refinishing. One way to tell is to look at the end views showing where the bracelet protrudes from the case -- on this watch virtually no metal remains in the corners.

Simply contrast the condition of the top side to the bottom...

You should have bought my MkII for $2400; it was a lot better than this one, and several people did tell you to as well ;-) but time waits for no man...

There are plenty of good MKII's out there ... I was contrasting your photos with the one on my wrist now. However, the brush finish doesn't stand up to decades of regular wearing so you've got to decide if you want an unpolished case with a few marks and less prominent finish; or, if you are happy with one that has been polished. If neither of those appeal, then your only other choice is to watch every sales forum, auction, car boot and shop window and wait until you find your unicorn of a 40 some year old safe queen. When you see it, buy it. Don't think about it. Don't wait til next week or the next bonus ... buy it right then.

I wish I had been saved from a few early significant mistakes. It does take a while to get your eye in. You will find a good one for that sort of money. Keep looking.

This is mine bought last year for less than that. Not perfect by any means but in good nick.

    Hi grasshopper,

I have been looking for a good example too for a long time.
Have found this example for a lot less than $2000, with a good finish and all original.

Maybe this one is in your interest

IT was the one i almost bought, but found in my eyes a better one.
It has original dial, hands and a service bracelet with little to no stretch. It has also been serviced by an Omega servicecenter
