It's odd that part of the T is in the notch and they knowingly filled it in with enamel...

I think this was just the laser not being lined up appropriately. Don't think anything malicious is taking place, but what do I know.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but there’s nothing unique about this. Just a pesky QC slip that happens here and there.

But wait, that's precisely what's unique... it's Pesky, a Slip, and it seldom happens because it's Here and There but not everywhere.

Why is the T in a notch?

Is it because someone drank too much scotch?

Did the engraver stumble and fall down?

I think he must have been a clown!

(apologies to Dr. S, and to OF. My son is 9 now but Seuss rhymes will be with me forever...)

Just turn the case back a couple of clicks to the left.

No… It’s unique when it seldom happens. But modern high-turnover Omegas (300M Diver and Moonwatch) have their fair share of QC issues. Hand misalignments, stuck clasps, blotchy lume, printing issues, date wheel alignment, etc.

Yeah, if you find this on a Patek or Lange that would be a major jackpot. Not in this case.

This must be a huge and widespread problem as I just saw the same problem on some other well known forum. 😉
Yeah, I had posted the issue on another forum before I was granted access to the Omega forums. This is my first Omega (a long time grail watch for me) and my first time on the forums. Thanks again for all the replies. 😀

It sometimes seems like 50% of the posts in the Modern Omega forum are complaints about QC issues by new members who are never seen again.

Otherwise, questions about what strap looks best.

Hi, I am sorry my first post was in relation to QC issues. I believed that this was the correct forum to post such a concern. I am happy to discuss more complex topics such as the physics and dynamics of the coaxial escapement invented by George Daniels in another post if its better suited to your criteria.
Best,
G

I understand that this is a QC slip up and if it was me I'd want that case back replaced under warranty. However, I understand that some vintage Speedmasters with the erroneous "225" bezels are considered "rare" and "collectable". It could be argued that the "225" bezel was a QC slip up as well. So when does a defect actually increase the value and collectable status of a watch? I'm confused...

When it has the name 'Rolex' on the dial. Otherwise these small 'defects' don't do much to the value of a watch (+ or -)

Hi, in this price range and with how common these watches are it is unlikely that the error will increase the price. I decided to keep it as is cause I like it personally. Usually these errors in more expensive watches like perhaps Rolex, Journe, AP, Patek, etc do eventually command a premium. To me, it has more of an emotional value; this specific watch with the QC slip or error was my first OMEGA. So it has a special quality to me.

Please post it if you know an example of a case-back error that commands a premium price ... in any brand.

IMHO replace it. The 3861 moonwatch represents technical achievement.
