In my opinion not only 2998s are more desirable, for me any Speedmaster with cal 321 in original factory condition it is.

I think the Grail was more about it being a 1045/5100 powered Omega uniquely in a modified 'moon watch' style case and being a bit difficult to hunt down (ESP 'correct').
It doesn't detract from the desirability of early 321s, but was a unique confluence of desirable features, especially for Chuck, who 'got' the 5100/1045 advantages over normal chronographs.
For me it was perhaps the last 'genuine' (ie Lemania power) moon watch evolution. The 321s at the other side of the history bookend are equally interesting, but the 376 was unique.

Spot on!👍
Chuck got a combo of a moon watch case with the last of the Lemania sourced chronograph movements in a low production model. A Grail to him, and I can follow his arguments.
He did not say there are not other Grail watches out there.

Chuck Maddox coined the Grail term among many other pronunciations, essays and thoughts.

I don't think it was ever intended to be given the weight that some have now awarded this term.

The 376 is a curiosity, an amusing twist on the moonwatch, while at the same time being arguably unrelated.

As a watch it is attractive and usable.

For me, the desire to own one passed.
