Top notch 2998s are less plentiful and certainly less available than 376s at least from what I have observed.
So we are comparing "top notch" 2998 against any 376 then?
that doesn't seem fair. 2998 are not less plentiful than 376

Ebay usually sees 2 376 pop up per Year.
Check eBay Sales since October 376=0 sold
2998= 5 sold
Check chrono24 offerings 376=0
2998= 10
Check ebay offerings Now 376=0
2998=2
And frankly don't get the OP's point. 2-376 sold on this forum last
year for 5500-5800 Euro. (though he sure is following the prices closely, why?)
So most are priced fairly.

And my POINT is that that the 376 is a Rare watch, not "coined" rarity
by Chuck Maddox. Many more 2998 were made than 376.

Now back to your hatin' Carry on

Not hating at all. Just expressing my own personal observation that top notch 2998s in my opinion are harder to locate thatn top notch 376s. I have discussed the 376 with Chuck before he passed and have a healthy respect for the man and I think it's a nice watch but for me personally I would rather have a nice 2998 but fully understand if others feel differently.

Concerning the 376 ebay sales...what do you mean by 0 sales since october?
...please check the links at the beginning of this thread
there were 2 auctions in december...(ebay Austria & ebay Germany)
On chrono I have seen at least 4 since August

and concerning rarities and its value...there were only 2000 pieces of the Speedmaster 125 produced..and the prices are part wise below 2000€ at the moment...quantity is not everything

"...and concerning rarities and its value.."
I never mentioned anything about relating rarity to value, please
infer I was talking about rarity translating to value.

Those ebay links you posted show as having been removed when I click them.
So there's your 2 a year.
Anyway like I said, all the sales seem to be around 5000-5500 Euro which seems
fair. Not $9000.

So, why are you tracking these so closely, just curious?

ok..now I got what you mean ...misunderstanding..
if the links are not working - go on ebay.de
the article numbers are

131384343055
301426727639

I am tracking them since a couple month because I was wondering why some were offered for 5 k and others for 9k...
the price fluctuation is quiet high

I think @Shem 's latest acquisition is much more of a grail than the unofficial Maddox grail.

I may be wrong, but I think that there are two uses of the word 'grail' among WIS.. in the general sense, any watch that is coveted and desired by an individual could be considered a grail, and each person will have their own grails they're after. In the specific sense, the Omega Ref 376.0822 was nicknamed as 'the holy grail' by the late Mr. Maddox because it was one of his personal grails, and the nickname stuck..

I agree, shem's latest acquisition is probably much harder to come by than either a 2998 or a 376, but the 376 is still 'the grail', and everyone else still has their own grails.

the 376 is still 'the grail'

I totally agree with you.
regardless of the price - "the grail" is and always will be the 376 ..thanks to chuck
must have been amazing to communicate with him...unfortunately I never had the pleasure

First one, in Austria had a 1171/633 instead of 1450/809, which probably lower the price of 400-500 EUR.

Please see the first post in this thread
the price was 7k ($) or best offer....I estimate he sold it max. for 6500$

the watch had the "old" 1171/1 clasp - which is not as common
but correct - at least 300-400€ might be the price difference to the 1450/809

The question is not if 1171 or 117/1 is rare, it's that the original bracelet IS 1450/809, very difficult to find as part.

Weren't the end links original 809 and 808 were later replacements?

Edit: ah, yes, I see that was covered already.

Difficult to make conclusions, because tough the status indicates SOLD, it does not mean that it was sold at the indicated initial price.

probably they were sold a little bit lower than listed...

in 2014 most 376 grails were sold between 4500 and <6000 € depending on the condition

You are forgetting that it was Chucks grail. Not some blow in or noob we are talking Mr Speedmaster who has produced more info on speedies than anyone prior to the new Speedie book

I am with Chuck, it is worthy but i am also with MSNWatch as each to there own

My grail is to have all three Skylab speedies (done a school project when Skylab was falling in the Australian outback)
