Speedmaster Date .... 3513.80 vs 3212.80?

Longtime lurker with a small collection of mostly vintage 1960s and 70s Omegas, but no chrono except my 90s Seiko.
Looking at a little less vintage Speedy auto with date and preferably a blue dial. I like the idea of a reliable 7750 based movement. I have a hand wind Ulysse Nardin with date and am always needing to reset the date when I wear it- an auto with date just makes sense to me. At work I sign/date a lot of forms and I really do look down at my watch to check it, call me absent minded. I have non-date dress watches and while they look great they don't work well for me in my workday rotation.
Non-friction bracelet clasp would be nice. My wife's Seamaster 120 has a clasp like the 3513 which I prefer to the friction clasps.

I think this narrows it down to two choices a 3513.80 and 3212.80, the 3511.80 looks like it has a friction clasp. I have looked through the threads on these and I am still not clear what all the differences are and whether any of the experts here would recommend one vs the other. The 3513.80 seems to be a little cheaper on average. I understand the 3212.80 is a little newer and has an 1164 instead of 1152 movement as well as a newer style clasp. I am not sure how much of an upgrade an 1164 is over the 1152 other than the chronometer rating. In practice I haven't seen much performance difference between my non COSC 565 Seamaster and my 564 Connie chronometer - of course they are nearly 50 years old.

I had a Blue Bond Seamaster and the bezel scratched a little too easily, though I prefer the blue bezel to the silver one.
I also looked and did not see a replacement 3212.80 blue bezel at Ofrei which worries me a little.
Though it looks like they have the silver one.

Any input would be appreciated.

Travis

The only thing that changes between an 1152 and the 1164 is the certification, and some parts that would have serial and model numbers on them - there's no substantial difference in the movement.

Cheers, Al

Thanks Al, I always appreciate your helpful posts.
Any thoughts on toughness of the blue bezel? I have not seen it on another model.

Thanks,
Travis

It will be as tough as any other anodized aluminum bezel is...

Ah, anodized aluminum, there was one thread I saw that talked about enamel on some of the bezels. I wore an SMF300 with an acrylic bezel for several months and love the watch, but one wrong arm move damaged the bezel and I have had a hard time getting a nice new one. Since that bezel is ruined I have been researching bezel restoration and probably will try filling it with a low viscosity epoxy. I think messing with it has made me a little bezel crazy.
