Speedmaster Caliber 321 "Ed White" - A Pictorial Review

Great thread and thanks for the posting! This may be the wrong place to ask, but could it be possible to replace an incorrect bezel and hands on a 2998-61 with OEM versions of the Ed White? That is, would they fit the original 2998, and would Omega or a dealer be willing to make such a sale of just those pieces as part of a repair/refurbishment of the 2998-61?

Whether or not they will fit is immaterial, Omega is no longer making parts like a new 321 ceramic bezel available to retrofit to another watch.

Great info - and thanks. So what's an Ed White owner do, say, when they need a replacement bezel or hands? Just wondering. The premise of the question is that it seems the Ed White is of a similar size and design of the original 2998 and 105.xxx watches, so could those parts or their OEM replacements be suitable retrofits? I may be misunderstanding your reply (with many thanks, BTW!).

If a new bezel is needed it will be replaced, but it's only done on an exchange basis, i.e. a new bezel is supplied when the old bezel is returned to Omega. Hands may be different.

I must say, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this post @Travelller. Thank you for posting it. If my finances could stretch, this would be the one to buy! 🤩

Many thx for your kind words 😊

Tbh, I would have a hard time to finance one at today's pricing. Having purchased it at 2020 prices (~12K, iirc) made it a little easier 😅

More importantly, ~five years on and it's still my favorite Speedmaster as well as one of the highlights of my humble collection 🤘⌚😃

That's a pretty strong two speedy collection.

Retail price when the steel 321 came out was $14,100, now it's $17,300, 22.7% increase over five years. Not too bad overall.

Unfortunately my wage (along with cost of living increases) means my spare cash for such a luxury has definitely not been along the same lines... if I were ever in the market for one, it would have to be used.

Maybe in line with inflation, but I've never purchased a 17K watch... 🤷‍♂️

Thx 😊
I'm pleased to say that I still have all four 🤘
Traditionally, I've gone with "three of a kind", in terms of models (Speedmaster, Seamaster, Subs-SDs, ...) but Speedmasters [& Seiko Divers] are the exception to the [my] rule 😉

I have, but the 50 years complimentary service makes up for my bottom line total spending.

I actually have five, the four current 3861s, Snoopy, FOIS, white dial and hesalite, and a 3523.80 blue dial triple calendar that is my favorite for reasons I can't explain, it just is. No 321 yet.

Occasionally I come back to this topic, and every time I am in awe for the great photos and writings, and I easily say that it's the best not professional topic ever read.

Thank you for this review, @Travelller. I find myself re-reading it about once per year. You've managed to communicate your joy in the Ed White while also attending carefully to details.

The great thing about the ed white is that it never became a hype watch.
