Speedmaster '57 Being Discontinued?

Just got a Speedmaster '57 in titanium. Love this thing. It oozes quality. The grade 5 titanium is feather light and harder than steel. The finishing on the 9300 movement looks beautiful. The lacquered dial looks like milky wet paint. I threw it on my timegrapher and checked all 6 positions. It wasn't off more than +1 or -1 in any position. Keeps perfect time on the wrist. That's amazing.

Anyway, I heard from my AD the Speedmaster '57 is being discontinued. The Omega website only shows a few versions of this model still available for purchase. Most say waiting list or contact boutique. Anyone else heard anything about this or willing to speculate? Do you think this model will be gone forever, or do you think they would just upgrade the movement in it to the 9900 caliber and give it a new reference number? Love to hear anyone's thoughts.

I find it attractive. For whatever reason 57s don't sell well.
it's possible that you have the only white 57 unicorn.

The only issue I can think of is George Clooney.
GC ruined movies. GC ruined tequila and now we can add Omega 57 to the list.
I guess GC hates stainless steel sport Rolex and Patek.

I think its always been the thickness of it tbh, they’ve been addressing that with time on their new movement designs but these are still a bit thick for a racing chronograph

This, and the price premium over the hand-wound was significant -- over CAD 10k at a time when the 1861-based Pro/ FOIS could be had for 5k or under. I owned one a few years back, and while I liked lots about the watch, I couldn't find a comfortable fit, despite owning several large and thick divers that wear more easily (Doxa, MM300, etc). Great movement, handsome design, but perhaps both too much and too little like its more famous brother? IDK.

Been dreaming they would make this a manual wind version to slim the height a bit. Could that be what is going on?

I don't mind the height on mine, especially since the titanium makes it featherlight. I could see how people might put off by the height specs of 16.5 mm. However, in reality it doesn't seem to wear that tall on me. I find the domed sapphire caseback disappears into my wrist. I suspect they could make a new version of this watch much thinner with the hand wound 9908 movement and no domed sapphire on the caseback. The new Chronoscope measures in at only 12.8 mm in height.

That looks great on you!!! I can imagine the titanium makes it nice and light to wear as well! I've been lusting over the black in steel. I have been going to stores trying that one on for years, don't really mind the height either and have some others that wear quite similar. I guess I'm just using the height as an excuse to not have to cough up the funds. One day though... 😉 Good point about the Chronoscope, did not realize it was only 12.8mm. I wonder what direction they will take with that case/movement combination, would be an interesting platform for some new Racing-dial versions.
