A guy on Reddit claims Omega sold him all the parts he needed to build a modern Ed White with the exception of the movement. He then salvaged a vintage 321 movement, put everything together and voilà:

Would you buy an "empty" Ed White from Omega with no serial number on the case but with a receipt showing all the parts are genuine ?

All depends on the price I guess. But yes, I would. It could be a super nice daily-wearer !

I would be interested in the circumstances in how Omega sold him a crystal, dial, hands, ceramic bezel, case and sapphire back in order to build his own made-up franken Ed White.

In the early days of the new Ed White, it was indeed possible for a watchmaker with an Omega account to order these parts. Omega quickly realized their mistake, removed these parts, and slapped the wrists on the few watchmakers who Omega realized had built Franken Ed Whites.

With all the receipt of the parts, sure, why not. But the price must be right since it is a real Franken watch.

Agreed. Like any cobbled watch, the value is the sum of the parts. We see racing dials pop up periodically and it’s an easy swap, but that doesn’t mean that a swapped dialed watch is worth the same as an original Japan racing dialed speedy.

Is this considered a “ghost watch”?

What is a ghost watch? By implication, why would this watch be any different than SM300s assembled by Watchco, others, or privately?

I mean, it's a Speedmaster... and the Speedmaster boys are very highly strung... so that has to be taken into account.

Yes some of us are really snooty and look down our noses at those too!

I am Spartacus...

I built this as a passion project, that I am no longer interested in keeping (which is basically how I collect and the primary reason I ever sell watches).
I was able to source parts from trusted members of the larger community. I have full confidence that they are authentic, and as someone mentioned here - these service parts come up for sale on here every so often.
I won't give my sources of purchase, but happy to answer questions.

Without a serial number, it’s impossible to trace, therefore a “ghost watch.”

I belive that’s what the gun guys call their sans-serial number firarms: “ghost guns.”

It does have a serial number, you can see it in the photo. The case wont but then they don't on Watchcos either so it is a good parallel. You can trace the original watch the movement came from. It is just unlikely to be a Ed White, either original or otherwise, and even if it was it would still be a Franken build.

"Ghost guns" is a made up term used by some to denigrate firerarm owners excersizing a natural human right to self defense and their firearms that were privately manufactured in a perfectly legal manner and in accordance with federal law. They require no registration, no serial number, and permisson isn't required from anyone. I get your point now, though.

The "Watchco" SM300s were assembled as Omega themselves would upon request and payment for the service and are hardly "Frankens" in this manner. I'm not familiar with this style case, its sum parts, and the history of the 321 movement (in general) to know if this is even possible through Omega as the SM300s were.

I like that part. Made my day. I miss God here. Was it not the " God given natural Human Right to kill others to protect myself ..." ? And " .... Perfectly legal manner in accordance with federal Law..." Just replace Murder Weapon with Speedmaster and make Omega the Culprit. Genius !
