Hi Forum, I am lucky enough to be able to 'own' a 1962 2998-4 Speedmaster, it has been serviced a couple of years ago at Simon Reese and all original parts and very good nick. When I say 'own' the watch, it is in my Dads safe as it had been on his wrist 40 years but thanks to Covid I have not been able to see him for over 12 months ! Anyway ...
The bracelet it has is good but not Omega. So I thought about the 7912/6 route which needs around £3K ish to get a decent original, (I have since bought a 1965 JB Champion mesh bracelet but not tried it on with the watch yet, going down the astro route !! ) other thought is leather strap. I am aware originally the 2998-4 was worn with leather as well as steel but wanted to ask if I tried that route is it worth looking at any NOS leather straps or just sticking to a decent modern variant by Omega or the many very good strap makers around on the net. Would appreciate any view you guys have on leather straps for the speedmasters. Thanks all

I’d grab a nice shell cordovan leather strap, really soft and supple with a great vintage look and far cheaper than most OEM Omega straps. There’s ren’t that many 19mm Omega straps anyway and most of them are designed for deployment not tang buckle.

Try to find an Technomarine Louisiana Crocodile high padded with contrast white Stiching. 19 mm . It's a stunning strap and I use it on my daily Speedy and it wears very well and shows no visible stress marks over the years. Good luck. Kind regards. Achim

Shell cordovan is a great shout. I have my 105.003 on a 18mm Fluco strap, which is 1mm too narrow, but i can hardly tell. Really comfy, and great value.

I have the correct bracelet but I like to use a strap even more. I like the look of a grained leather strap. This is one from Jean Paul Menicucci (JPM).

That's lovely. Is it goatskin? i can never quite tell what the overwhelming characteristic of a goatskin is, is it looking like this, or is it the thicker/stiffer feel?

Just if you’re interested I’ve really liked the one I bought from @jankoxxx they’re relatively well priced really nice quality and feel great on the wrist. I’m sure there are plenty of others too out there that’s just the nicest I’ve personally owned.

Ed white on an vintage Omega 19mm strap is a nice choice as well. They pop up 19mm on ebay occasionally.

Don’t know tbh and it does not say on the various sites were it is listed.
