Speedmaster 1861 at MSRP worth it?

Good points. I’m beginning to wonder if I should hold out and wait for the 3861s to be readily available and discounted. A decent 10% discount would put the watch pretty close to the 1861 at MSRP.

I guess just be wary that depending how long it takes for the 3861s to be readily available and discounted, they might have been through a number of price bumps, potentially negating that discount. A tricky decision!

That’s a reasonable course of action. For me the previous bracelet design wins out. It’s a little more masculine in my eyes. But I like the flat three link too. Wear it in good health.

Will probably wear on a different strap so not so much an issue. However if the 3861 had better micro adjustment it would be a different story.

I know right. I think that’s part of the game for me. The hunt can be exciting or frustrating as most of you know.

Another plus for the 1861 variant is the ability to replace the clasp with the micro-adjustable clasp. It provides a perfect fit.

About $220 +/- for the clasp and the two connecting links required. It's well worth it in my opinion.

Most ADs and OB will sell you the parts but you’ll have to install them yourself or pay a watchmaker to do it for you. They stopped installing them awhile ago. I did that with my SMPC (no wave). Never looked back.

That's the best investment I made on my Speedmaster. It was worth spending every penny.

I am now leaning towards waiting on the 3861 to come down in price. I think the slight increase in price after a discount over the MSRP of the 1861 is well worth it.

I haven't checked but I wouldn't be surprised to see Chrono 24 having new stock below list.
Now I have checked and they definitely have old model new unworn below list.

I think there's also a not so hidden cost hike with the 3861.
The 1861 comes with the fancy big box. The 3861 comes with the decidedly not so fancy not such a big box.

just another thought.
isn't it strange that dealers say they have stopped offering discounts on old models. Do they really get new buyers coming in to see the new models, and going away happily paying full list for the the old tat. Good luck with that, dealers.

That's just the way the car market works, isn't it. Not.

I don't see that in Europe. The new 1861 Hesalite variant at the moment is above 5000€ - Retail was 4900€.

Hi all,
Well my no longer favourite reseller Watchfinder that since being bought by Richemont have really changed and not for the better IMO have a 2019 so a 2 year old Speedy on leather for just £205 over list price ROFLMAO. I really want the drugs they are all on down at that place now as not only is this their new modus operandi but they now specialise in seriously low ball offers for a watch you want to sell them. Their new model appears to be top prices for what they sell and buy to allow themselves 100% mark up on resale. Also they don't appear to actually be checking all the watches like they say they do prior to listing and sale either just check the 1* and 2* feedbacks on Trustpilot for a good laugh.

Hmmm I see what you mean. I think the euro has weakened a little against the UK. I was looking at UK prices, so maybe the VAT/TVA has an effect on them.

I found these 3 priced on the UK website. The top 2 are in the EU. I am not sure what VAT/TVA is priced in.
The third one seems OK. They should take VAT off, and then you pay TVA or whatever in the EU. It should come in around 4500 or so. Maybe they will take an offer as well. Good luck, anyway.

£4,500 is ca. €5200

Customs and taxes is about 20%, so the £4,047 Speedmaster would be €5500 after shipping to the EU.

£4,047 Is actually a good price, a little bit under retail but not much ( £4,047 = 4700€, Retail 4900).

I called another AD in my town and they are all out of 1861s. When asked if they can still order she said yes and she does have a few customers waiting for them. My guess is they are not offering discounts. I didn’t bother to ask.
Also said that they are taking deposits for 3861s but by late summer or the fall/winter you should be able to get one no problem. Deposits are for those eager customers.
Last I checked you can still order the hesalite 1861 from Omega’s US website but obviously at MSRP.
I will be visiting a former AD tmrw to pickup my seamaster strap and requested to take a look at their 1861s in hesalite and sapphire. I’ll try again to ask for a discount. They are already struggling I think after loosing their relationship with Omega so might not want to push the issue.

The 1861 Hesalite and Sapphire Sandwich on bracelet are NOT available right now on the US website. But you can get them on the leather strap. I suspect they will all be gone relatively shortly from the Omega pipeline. Anyone keen on getting a new 1861 needs to get on their horse and make a decision. I don't think dealers need to make any grand discounts on the remaining 1861's, they will sell themselves when the become extremely hard to find. Human nature makes us want things that are no longer available.
