Speedmaster 145.022 question

Hi all,

I am looking at this Speedmaster 145.022 as a purchase and would like some opinions on whether the hands are original or a service item? The minute hands has some of its lume broken away which should indicate it's not a recent item. The bezel looks too good for a 1990 production watch, don't know how well these age. The case has some minor signs of wear and tear, so has the crown, a few knocks and minor scratches, which is a good thing I guess.

I don't have any history of the watch except it was serviced earlier this year, the plexiglass was replaced.

Apologies the photo has too many reflections, it's the only photo I have. I viewed the watch earlier today.

Any thoughts on originality of parts would be grateful.

Thanks.

There's something about this one . . . I mean it looks good. Really good. Being a 90's vintage, I wouldn't care about service parts as long as it all matched well.

Thanks, i suppose it's a valid point, it's not exactly a vintage piece so originality is less important as long as the parts used are Omega.

Looks OK for me incl. the bezel. But would loop in @Aludic for his opinion.

Yes the lume loss in the minute hand is probably an indication for originality, but the extent of the loss would put me off.

Is this a 1450 bracelet?

What's the asking price?

Looks okay to me too...I don't think there's much to argue against the hands being original (tritium) but you could verify by checking to see how the lume lights up in the dark next time. Bezel is correct for the reference, but you might want to consider opening the watch to check mov't serial number and caseback reference to make sure everything goes together.

Given the recent service, I would be concerned about the hour subdial hand not being aligned at 12.

Overall this looks to be a nice looking watch. How do you like it?

Thanks everyone for the replies. I like the watch a lot, I am just concerned about how many service items have gone on it so it it's been widely refurbished. It looks like a genuine, well looked after piece, has some minor knocks etc on the case which perfectly fine with me.

Price is £5k, probably can get tvdown to £4.5k if I haggle.

Thanks.

Really hard to go by just one, rather poor quality, picture... Either way, looking at this I don't see any major red flags. Appears to be an 1450 / 808 bracelet indeed, which would justify part of the rather steep asking of 5k GBP, imho. While you could argue that the lume loss in the minute hand is a challenge, it is indeed not uncommon and testifies to originality. Still, I would personally have it stabilised at least as more bits could (and probably will) come off, causing potential issues with the movement.

One specific observation about the bezel; I would like to see more pictures. Initially it struck me that the black paint shows a texture resembling an orange skin. Upon closer inspection of the four DNN's of the same type I have sitting around at the moment, I do think it is correct as I found that one of my own bezels shows a similar effect, even though it is not as pronounced. Could be the result of the lighting in the picture. To the original question around bezel aging; look around. You'll find ample examples that are much, much older and come with very good quality bezels. On the other hand, there's also many that are way worse off. It really depends on the amount of wear it had, as well as the type of owner(s), I suppose.

In short; I don't see any major issues other than having the lume in the hands looked after in case you'd wear it regularly (in which case a service is always a good idea unless there's proof it has really happened recently)...

@vanvan Best of luck haggling and deciding.

Hello, this little beauty is mine now. Great condition except for the broken lume on the minutes hand, will take it to my watchmaker to look at it, although I much like as it is.

Bracelet is 1450 with 808 end links.

Cashback us marked 145022 with around 3 dates for various services it has received over the past 2 decades, a good sign.

I couldn't open the dustcover as I was too scared to damage anything, may try again to check reference numbers.

Lovely movement ticking away, keeping time well, 4-5 slow over 24 hrs, which is perfectly fine for an 861 movement I think.

Thanks for all the replies, great forum.

Cheers.
