Speedmaster 145.0022 1983 Buying Advice

Hi,

I have just joined and hope to gain some of the group's knowledge! I've wanted to purchase a Speedmaster for many, many years, and I'm finally in a position to make it a reality.

I'm looking at a watch advertised as a 1983 145.0022. Is there anything visible I should be paying particular attention to on the exterior? I believe the serial number requires the caseback to be removed, which I have requested happen, and a photo to be taken. Should I also be requesting a photo of the inside of the caseback and the clasp on the strap?

Thanks for any advice/tips/dos and don'ts when purchasing!

I’m yet to see the watch in person, but have photos of it being presented.
Im pretty confident it'll be as it should be, but as its vintage I’d just like to understand what to look out for.

Yes you need to see inside, serial number on movement, inside caseback- ask for service history, bracelet details w photos, side views of crown and pushers. Lots of details.

And when asking for advice always good to share asking price so OF members can help you avoid paying too much.
Dont rush- do the research on whatever particular watch you like, also check out Private Sales thread here trusted OF members often sell there and you get good descriptions and reasonable prices, for the most part. Quite a few FS there now.

It looks pretty solid so far. Probably the best advice to take from those who have some experience: Buy the seller. If the seller has a long history of happy customers, you can feel safer with his items. But if you can get a look inside, that's a good idea.
