Hi All - You all saved me from making a stupid purchase of my first Speedmaster a while back. (Special thanks to Watchknut and others.) In my continuing hunt, I've found this one for sale. Hoping to get similar candid feedback. My questions: Is this the correct dial? "Meister" seems like a plus, but does did they make Meister dials on the Ed White? The seconds hand is incorrect. Does this have much of an impact on value? Are the subdial hands correct? I can't tell level of polish. Opinions here? One photo appears to have decent facet lines... Go ahead and let me have it...
I believe an Ed White with the Meister double branding is very rare. Meisters are more normally seen on later Professional dials. That being said, I'm not sure how much (if any) premium is attached to Speedmaster Meister dials. Davidoff had an Moonwatch exhibition a while back and displayed a Tiffany signed Moonwatch dial. They indicated it was the only known example.
Meister adds no value IMO but thecwatch overall is decent. Is there a tropical hint to the dial as well?
Looks nice. Meister doesn't do it for me personally, I'd prefer one without, but the watch is quite decent looking. Care to share the asking price?
Nice looking watch. Case polished but not too bad from what I can see. Finding correct hand not a biggie. the dial and bezel are lovely.
Thanks all. Seller is asking $18K which seems quite high to me (and more than wife will allow me to spend I'm sure)...
Thanks for the info! That does seem steep, but that bezel is pretty swell, and if the dial is as nice in hi resolution as it appears, well.. Will this be considered the going rate next year?
Of course , you've seen this one? https://omegaforums.net/threads/mic...ith-extract-and-1035-506-3-67-bracelet.63533/
I think having Meister on the dial, if confirmed by an extract of the archives, would certainly add value and collectability to a watch. The asking price on this one definitely reflects a premium to a standard ed white, so if the Meister branding isn't appealing to you then you should find a different one.
also, this appears to be the same watch on the same strap as this one from 4 years ago: https://omegaforums.net/threads/on-...r-st-105003-65-do-i-miss-something-here.7481/ so I would double check that the seller is legit
Oddboy - Yes, I saw that one too. Thanks for the reminder. Cad290 - That's an awesome catch. Saw that thread when researching "Meister" but didn't think to check the Ebay link! Scary. This seller is also in South America. Not sure how to get a transaction done as I wouldn't want to wire money without being able to check out watch. Use an escrow service?
Personally, I would be uncomfortable trying to buy it at all unless the seller has very good confirmable recommendations from previous buyers
Irrespective that Cad290 may have uncovered a scam, for all of those that said $18K is too high, what do you think a watch of this quality would be worth - and please don't just point at speedmaster101 in response.
The Meister does nothing for me, but I bet that dial is a nice chocolate color in natural light. The caseback has been so polished the double bevel is more of a gentle curve. Bezel is decent but not mint. Wrong hand. Still if this was a legitimate watch available from a trustworthy seller I'd say the brownness of the dial is enough to put it in the good range on speedmaster101 (15kUS).
I might go to 15 if it had a correct bracelet and ends. Without those, closer to 12 or so, imho... largely because of that case back.
