Hi Guys,

Usually I have no issue validating a vintage Speedmaster. However, this time I have a hard time validating if it a good deal or not.

Obviously it has problems:
- Wrong bezel for the reference.
- Heavily polished case and case back
- Case tube for crown stem is dented.
- Hands have been repainted.
- Different colors of parts in movement?

And what about the dial lume? I suspect it is relumed as they march so well with the hands and the hands have clearly been repainted at some point.

Price asked is 8 900 USD

Is it worth the price? Are the indexes relumed? What do you think about the case stem tube? The color of the movment? Something else I have missed?

Much appreciated, thank you all.

I believe the baton hands are replacements for original alpha hands.

Yes, I thought this model is basically a late 2998 with a different numbering.

I would say :

Relumed dial.
Over polished case (the double bezel is a single bevel now 🤦).
Service bezel.
Wrong/service hands.
Suspect movement (at least butchered spacer ring).

The question is more "are you confortable with that price ?". It's a question we can't answer for you.

There are baton hands on 105.002-62... and alpha hands. Splits right down the middle.

Ah did not think of that. It is quite early in the 105.002 area so makes sense. Thanks

Well posting this is all about figuring this out 😉 The relume and the hands is my biggest concern. Thanks for taking your time.

The ref 105.002 have both alpha and baton hands, however this is early in the series and thus would most likely have the alpha hands.

I'm no expert but the dial looks relumed to me.

Thanks, I had forgotten this. Anyway, always thought it was the alpha hands that made this model attractive.
