It's not. They leaned on German thinking not French thinking. XVI can be centered 2 ways. The true center like they did which off balances the gotten of the V since I is shorter the X.

I would have centered it on the V which would have been wrong but I think would have looked better.

Yeah, that's what I mean - the V is noticeably crooked. Here's one of the pictures with a flat 1 pixel wide line at the top and bottom that just touches the top and bottom edges of the V. It looks like the letters were removed and badly re-applied.
