I’ve developed a tick with any 145.022 Speedmaster to always check the bezel at the 200 mark for the chance that it’s a 220 bezel.

This morning scrolling through C24 I came across this one being sold by a US dealer.

There’s the 220 bezel but the case back confused me

My research, and past OF threads, tell me original 220 bezel speedys did not overlap with straight writing speedys coming out of Omega in late 1970 and 71. Also the seller provides scant details about the watch, making no mention of the bezel or case back, so they are not making any specific representations about the watch.

I wonder if anyone knows this watch or did someone just cobble together parts to make an early 70s 145.022 with all the notable transitional elements from that period in a single watch.

From Fratello , so check the movement number to see if its fits the 220 - so the caseback is a swap but still a nice one !.

During production, a new post-Moon version emerges with “The first watch worn on the Moon” written straight across the case back. These are referred to as “Straight writing” Speedies, as later versions would get a central medallion and curved writing around it. The misprint bezel does not occur on “Straight writing” Speedmasters, only on pre-Moon 145.022-69 references. More specifically, they are only found within the 30,589,000–31,000,000 serial range.

But two already showed up here to confuse things a little ..

Yep, I came across this one. Absent clear information to the contrary, I assume none of these left the factory like this. Interesting conversation piece though.
