I wrote that one off myself expecting it to go silly like a couple of other pieces in the same auction. 😬
It truly demonstrates the value of knowledge and persistence.
This is not the first time I have noted Martin picking up great items at very good prices, and I am sure the same virtues will be awarded also in the future.
Well deserved, and a truly amazing time-warp piece.
No envy, just loads of respect and admiration.

That is a fantastic example. I think you are probably correct in the assumption that most bidders are focusing on what is popular now and missing on these absolute gems. Great catch!

This watch was sold in August 1958 for 1.230 SEK (= USD 237:45 as in 1958 exchange rate). The price paid back then is equivalent to 45.000 SEK today (USD 5.500), which is 1,5 month gross salary for an ordinary white collar (in Sweden) today. This makes me suspect that the watch was sold originally with a gold bracelet, since if the price is for the head only, it seems so remarkably high. Any thoughts on this?

Does this help any? Is this the one? [Markers are different at 12, 3, 6, 9. Not sure exactly what I'm looking for 😬]

Prices in French Francs. Mentions the extra Fr 15 for black dials.

Fr 795 on 9th August 1958 = 976 SEK [according to http://fxtop.com/en/currency-conver...K&DD=09&MM=08&YYYY=1958&B=1&P=&I=1&btnOK=Go!]
but Fr 795 on 1st January 1957 (brochure is 57/58) = 1.169 SEK (1,169)

Seems to have been quite an exchange rate fluctuation in 1958 and dealers wouldn't/don't change prices if it's in their favour 😁.
So would seem more likely, to me, it was sold on a leather strap.

Page taken from here:

The next pages have watches on gold bracelets and are a lot more expensive.

Sorry photos were taken with my phone.
Will try to work on them later but it has taken me ages today to get them loaded and upright. 😬

Many thanks @Emeister! I think that that catalogue shows that the price for my watch in the original purchase was 1.230 SEK on a leather strap. On a gold bracelet the price would have been almost the double.
