Hey guys,

I would like to present you a new addition to the family. 😀

Found this watch by chance on a third-class site for selling used items. When I saw it at first I thought it was a 14381 with onyx markers but after looking at the caseback I realized it wasn’t a classic Constellation. It was 2887. Quickly contacted Desmond who confirmed the originality and after a few days of slow communication with the seller, the watch finally headed towards me. The seller had about 20 reviews (for some it would be enough to avoid it) but I decided to take a risk. Since he didn’t want to send it to my country, I had to ask my wife’s friend to pick it up at her address. Watch arrived wrapped in toilet paper and placed in a thin envelope. Luckily it came in one piece. ::facepalm1::

As far as I understood reading Desmond's blog, this is an uncommon watch although some more experienced members of this forum would say, rare. 😗

The steel case with the screw back shows traces of wear, which is common for a watch this old and the dial has a slight patina. The crown is original and I am now in the process of finding period correct buckle.

Im very happy with this purchase and hope you like it as much as I do.

Best regards,

Tom

Last year that toilet paper was worth more than the watch!
And thanks to the Delta variant and 1/2 of the US adult population that refuses to get vaccinated, it may be again! My county was just designated an area of high community transmission this morning. Oh joy.

Us too and my state is 84% vaccinated for eligible people. Our county is small though so 40-50 cases can quickly become too many.

Oh, right, the watch… that’s super nice! Great pickup. I’m always hoping I’ll stumble across a site no one else seems to know about, I used to have one but about a year ago prices started skyrocketing so I think more people started checking it 😀

Very nice! Congrats!
I love it when a little risk pays off.

Up until recently I had hardly heard about 2887 at all, but I've read up a bit now. Very cool!
One thing, though. You write 'snap back', but it is a screw back' that is pictured - no?

Edited, thanks. Heard about if few years ago but couldn't even imagine seeing one in person let alone owning one. Definetly a keeper!

Toilet paper, really? 🤨

Got to love the... resourcefulness of ppl in the Balkans. I’ve had a few watches sent to my cousin, who lives in Belgrade, and they’ve arrived in cigarette boxes, old medicine packages, and yes, often wrapped in toilet paper 😁

I had a seller send me a turntable cartridge on headshell from Japan in a snack sized lunch container and was so impressed, that I have used the method since.
