Thanks for sharing, very nice thread, I loved the picture and your analysis of the issues.
I'd love to be able to work on a watch like you do!

What a thread! Phenomenal work on that thing - I'm sure you far exceeded any expectations the owner could have possibly had.

Very cool thread and as was said earlier, good to have an HVAC tech as a friend for when something goes wrong when it's hot/cold outside.

The effort you put into these posts is much appreciated. Every time I read one, it feels as if I'm along for the watch's journey. Great job!

Well the day had to come, Scotty turned up today to collect his watch so I only have my Airking for Rolex company.

Besides a movement inspection, case and bracelet cleaning and bracelet repair I also checked it on the time grapher and put it on a winder for for fourteen days after hacking it to my GPS watch. It gained 42 seconds after that time which is +3 seconds per day. This could be regulated even further in resting positions but I'll leave that up to him.

Needless to say he was very happy with the result, here's a pic he sent me before he came around to collect it.

(Yes, that my "payment" he's holding 😁).

So that closes this little project.

Oh, he happened to mention he may need a Speedmaster in the near future so I don't think I've seen the last of him 😁.

Hi Jim - nice of you to do this for Scotty.

Can I ask why you put oil on the bracelet parts? That's not normally done. Was the cobalt drill bit too difficult to turn down, rather than opening up the tube?

BTW "that singer" also played Jason Bourne, so he might not be a push-over in a scrap, even if he is a Hollywood type (by way of Boston)...😉

Wow what a cool thread.
You mentioned you were not a watchmaker? How do you have such an amazing setup of watch repair and timing tools?

I can offer some insight:
How do you have such an amazing setup of watch repair and timing tools?
Jim is a borderline victim of CDO (compulsive disorder with obsession, in alphabetical order, the way it should be).
Your food preparation is as organised as your desk!!
Everything he does is organis(z)ed, he knows how many shits are left on the roll of toilet paper in his loo.

What some may not know is that he is the most helpful, caring bloke on this forum and someone I am proud to call a mate!
If ever help is needed, he is there and his reward is the respect of his peers and the beauty of his surroundings and of the people that love him!

My hat's off, friend, this forum is built on your heart and your CDO.

He's sleeping peacefully, unless the Lagavulin is keeping him up!

I can make fun of the Kiwi's embarrassing the Aussies (on the American boat!) in the Cup races. How come all the good sailors are from NZ? How come all the sailors on the American boat are Aussies?

Hat's off to a good NZ crew!

Damn! He's awake!

Nobody else can sail? Where's Dennis Connor when you need him? (you young'ns will have to google that)

They sure handed Spithill his hat, didn't they?

When I said a fine coat Al, it was more of a molecular level wipe with a drop of oil on watchpaper so as not to attract and hold crud.

The drill was very hard to cut and as I had a new one of the same size it was simpler to take a few microns out of the tube. If I had more material of suitable sizes I could have turned a pin down but the cupboard was bare.

“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

We are a Country of scrappers....

Don't get me started.

Great thread to follow.
We'll be the judge of that, Sergio, my friend!
I've written wonderful pieces here that seem to pass by....
