Some help needed regarding a vintage Seamaster

Hi,

I’d be grateful if someone could give me a bit of information about this watch please.

I think it’s from the late 1950’s and I know it has radium on the dials. I’m looking to sell it and I can’t find a watch exactly the same that has been sold on eBay to estimate how much I should price it at/expect for it. I’ve seen a few which look a bit similar around the £800 mark.

It’s in fair condition and I had it serviced 20 years ago and only wore it occasionally afterwards. It’s been sitting in a draw at home ever since.

So if anyone could say if it’s fairly standard or an interesting model I’d be grateful.

Hi and welcome! I am not a specialist for these, but it might be a 2759 / . 420 model. The S is a so called coat-hanger variant.
The thing is: black dials are beautiful, but often redialed (from white to black). AFAI see , this might be correct. Also the hands. Does the crown and the glass show the omega-logo?
price- range ??? I guess: wide range from 500 to 800 in this case.
Nice model, anyway👍

Definitely not a cal. 420. That is a manual wind caliber. This watch is automatic, says so on the dial. Which I believe to be an original black one.

Could be a cal. 550 or 552, depending on whether it was originally sold in the US or elsewhere.

Take it to a watchmaker who can safely open the back and take pictures of the movement and inside of the caseback. You’ll need those to sell the watch on eBay anyway.

Then we can tell you more.

Interesting watch!
I think there is a nice and original black dial under that glass.

I believe that it should be ref.14900 with cal.550.

Another example with the same hour-markers, so sorry quality of this photo isn’t quite good.

Best,

14900 is a Dogleg Constellation, 14700 sounds about right though. 😀

There's a lot of gunk on it. I'd take a cotton swab, put it in alcohol and gently try to remove the worst of the gunk. Then, go to a watchmaker and just ask him to open it, so you can take pictures of the movement (showing the caliber- and the serial number) and the inside of the case back. Make sure those numbers are legible in the pictures. Coming from an unknown seller (you; no offense, really, but you're not a dealer/known collector, which does make a difference for pricing), I'd expect something like 600-700GBP in a no-reserve auction. Let the free market work its magic.

Slightly different configuration, but my own 14700 says hi:

Hi,

Thank you for the reply and the info.

The crown does have the Omega logo on it. But not the glass. When I had it serviced 20 years ago the glass was changed.

Thanks again.

Thanks for that. Yes the dial is original. The watch has been in the family since it was brand new. I know it has only ever been opened up twice in that time.

Thanks for the advice. Yes your one is very similar. Steel with a black dial. The crown looks similar too. I’ll do some research on the 14700.

Here's an image of my ref 14701, the same reference as yours but with calendar.

Note that mine has the replacement crown, while yours is original.

Cordially,

Looks good. Wonder if it came with a metal bracelet originally.

Looks good. Wonder if it came with a metal bracelet originally.

According to the eBay seller four years ago, the '62 Seamaster was found as-is languishing in a drawer for at least twenty years, so it's likely the bracelet was acquired either when it was purchased or shortly thereafter when the original strap wore out.
