Whenever I see "polish" I justifiably or unjustifiably become squeamish. Just send the watch to one of the recommended true watchmakers on this forum. State that you'd like the water repaired, using Omega parts and that you want it kept "authentic" (or a better word). The wait time may be long, and you might not get a bargain; but the watch will be fixed properly and it will be one less headache for you.

That did happen to come from one of the Omega service centres.

But I will look around and find somewhere that will do it properly. I'm afraid it's suffered a bit under my ownership, I've worn it when I shouldn't, and to be honest, it could really do with the polish and will certainly need a new crystal.

Hi !
I have a lot of vintage watches of different values .. I happen to have just bought the very same Omega Geneve recently. As always with a new acquisition, the watch went for a service to my watch smith (independent artisan). The cost of the service for such a watch must be 100 to 125.€ not more and by a very competent technician.
Here is that watch :

Good luck for your search !

Thanks for the reply and good wishes.
Although your watch is very similar, I can see a few differences in mine...
Mine has only one step in the back.
The lugs come directly off the bezel
The hands on mine look like they once glowed in the dark.

And yours doesn't look like it's been through a demolition🙁

Well, yes always minor differences ..the lugs are on the same position and I dont see the back of your watch .. hands are different, true .. you should post pics of the movement to determine the age and the type of movement (should be 565 I believe) ..
Regarding the aspect, your watch after thorough cleaning and overhaul should return to a very nice status.

I can't open it, I don't have the tools to unscrew the back. I'd love to have a look though. 😀

I generally am willing to pay more for Omega servicing because I wear an Omega almost always, and they are usually capable of greater precision than lesser brands, so my watchmaker takes longer and performs more adjustments than most people would request.

interestingly, I got a discount on a 30T2 because it reassembled easily for him and ran well without additional work.

So you might also ask what timekeeping the watch is capable of and what the watchmaker’s expectations are. If he’s satisfied with 30 seconds a day, maybe you want to look for someone else.
