FOR SALE is my Longines ref.5130 which was issued to the German Army by Longines in January 1943. It has the iconic 12.68z movement and although I do not have any service history it keeps time well. Considering it's age and use in WW2 it is in great original condition - the dial has aged with an interesting patina, hands and crown are original and case is in good solid condition with a few expected dings but nothing serious. The crystal is in good condition but has an age crack so I will also provide an unused replacement crystal supplied by John Senior.
The diameter is 32/33mm excluding crown and 16mm lugs - watch is supplied as head only. These rarely appear on the market and my asking price is £1000 delivered and insured with EU (and UK before 31/12). Any other locations will have a nominal surcharge applied.

Thank you - a very much under the radar watch and when you consider what the WWW and MN Longines fetch it's a great investment. As they say those that know know!

The number matching case is a real bonus here. Priced to sell. I've seen worse examples sell for twice on Chrono24 from time to time. GLWS If i had the funds I'd jump on this, am lacking a quality makers DH piece...

Thank you - yes I believe it’s a very fair price for one of these. There are a few on EBay that make this look an absolute bargain

Whilst I quite enjoy the look of this watch, I’ve always had a difficulty in buying any watch worn by the Third Reich.

Whilst the 6B/159 watches or indeed the WWW watches fill me with pride, and a sense of nostalgia I can only imagine this watch would feel me with a sour taste in my mouth. Does anyone else feel the same?

I regret this feeling as otherwise this is in my opinion a very very well priced gem of a watch!

@OllieOnTheRocks of course we all have our own feelings about military watches. I find it very strange that for you it's all about which side of a conflict the watch was associated. I could fully understand if it your opinion was based on the concept of the watch being issued to armed forces as a stand against human conflict but to pick and choose which armed forces are acceptable and which are not seems illogical. You seem to think that others should share your nationalistic or political views as they are somehow superior rather than enjoying an inanimate object. I think Longines have produced some beautiful and incredibly well engineered watches and for me it is about the watch itself and not what others may choose to associate with who the watch was worn by. I own and appreciate WWW and 6B/159 watches for what they are I own examples of both). I also own a number of watches that were issued to other armed forces around the world. None of them fill me with pride or of revulsion but they are items that form part of the history of human conflict which does not make any one of them different from any other. Individuals should be what fill you with pride - not man-made mechanical items made by a third party.

I think you’re misunderstanding my sentiment.

Products are at the end of the day emotional items. We buy through emotion and emotion is dictated by feelings of desire, or pride or nostalgia or such like.

I feel no such positive feelings for watches worn by nazis, but I do have positive feelings for the brand Longines and the craftmanship of these early pieces. On that merit alone the watch is magnificent mechanically and is a good enough reason to desire it. I can easily appreciate that, however for me these watches are tainted by the atrocities of nazi Germany and the ideologies that the soldiers were indoctrinated to believe in.

There are always two sides to conflict, and we often forget that there are good people on both sides of war; but I think a watch worn by a nazi is beyond the line that I would feel comfortable. Perhaps my emotions are somewhat spiritual - I wore my 6B/159 with pride because it could very well have been worn by an airman that contributed to ridding this world of evil.

In comparison a watch worn by a nazi would do quite the opposite and represents a time in history that I do not want to forget, but rather would prefer it kept in a museum rather than on my own wrist.

Everyone has our own passions and beliefs and opinions and I respect yours absolutely for that is your prerogative. I do think many people will agree with my sentiment but likewise there are surely some who see this item for what it is on face value an important part of watch history!

The watch is attractive and logically it makes a lot of sense to buy it. I guess this is an argument between the logical and emotional brain, and whether for better or worse I am too much of a romantic to look beyond my emotions.

Thank you for sparking an interesting conversation ☺️

Maybe throw this in the forum discussion instead of the listing itself. Wouldn’t want to take away from the buyer’s enjoyment of the watch.

Whilst of course the watch may have been worn by a Nazi there were a lot of soldiers in the German military who fought with honour, courage and a respect for their enemy however misguided they were by their leaders. Some may have been removed from the horrors of the despicable regime and some had beliefs contrary to this and paid with their own life. Perhaps this watch belonged to one of the latter? Just another way of looking at this.... Best wishes and may 2021 be a good one.
