Sad but a common, reoccurring problem over the decades. Bolder and bigger scams that are fuelled by social media. The common ingredients present in both sellers and "collectors/ investors/speculators" are greed a lust. With the exorbitant, inflated prices that certain brands are commanding these days on the grey market, no wonder many individuals are tempted by grand larceny. I'm not surprised by this kind of news. Not one bit.

Newbies are more interested in "investment" rather than collecting of simply enjoying their timepieces. Marvelling at "how much more money my watch is worth today" has become the new impetus for would be new "collectors". This type of con will unfortunately, continue as long as the crazy money and possibility of preying on the greed and naïveté of others is present.

Lucky the only expensive watch I have is my Seiko 😉

Call me old-fashioned — but I prefer not to do business with people with that kind of past history, even if they got their act together.

You say that, but how would you know? Are you running (read: paying for) criminal background checks on every person that you do business with?

I guess it's a little different for this guy, since he put himself out there on the internet. But I have a hard time believing that you're background checking (with any degree of depth) every person you do business with.

Just saw this on TRF. Take it with a grain of salt.

lol

many people are now calling him a convicted felon whenever they speak of the situation. giving the powerhouse weight of he word and saying "convicted felon" as an innuendo of "i saw this coming" or "once a criminal always a criminal".

thing is he was convicted of a DWI.

that doesn't really have much bearing on anything. and it definitely doesn't live up to the impact of the word that people are throwing around

A little more complicated. I believe in turning your life around and going straight. He attributes the change to his kids birth. That’s very likely to have had a profound impact on his life. Regardless, Here is the alleged rap sheet someone else compiled:

1 May 2007 - assault causing bodily injury
  • 15 Aug 2007 - assault causing bodily injury - FAMILY VIOLENCE
  • 25 Aug 2007 - Driving while licence invalid
  • 10 Dec 2007 - arrested for "Assault causing bodily injury" and "failure to appear" - effectively smacked somebody around while another warrant was active
  • 28 Dec 2009 - Public Intoxication
  • 28 Dec 2009 - Evading arrest/detention
  • 1 Nov 2010 - Speeding
  • 1 Nov 2010 - Ride motorcycle without licence
  • 3 Nov 2010 - Criminal Trespass
  • 3 Nov 2010 - Failure to maintain proof of financial responsibility

that would be called having a police record. not line item felony convictions.

i'm not condoning what he might of done, but nobody goes around telling people the mistakes they made or the bad things they might of done in error growing up. that stuff prolly came from a background check somebody paid $20 for.

i mean, c'mon. you're not going to not to business with someone for speeding or public intoxication. if there was fraud of any sort, well that's a different story

my point was the impact and weight of the word "convicted felon"

Google is your friend.

Putting someone's name in a search engine to see if anything pops up is not the same thing as running a criminal background check on someone...

Lots of people out there with similar convictions on their record, that are not showing up with a Google search.

That all is 10 yrs in the past. Maybe he has gotten his life together now?
Shows a lot of trust on people’s side to test my hypothesis.
Not sticking up for these guys as I know them not and this whole thing smells fishier than a certain Australian seiko being sold here by @STANDY but I’ve worked with plenty of people who went through real bad times, changed their lives around and if you have groupings of charges like that and then have no legal involvement for a decade plus I mean that’s a pretty good sign you have turned things around. TBH though that’s quite a few convictions but still I see people make drastic changes and it can be a bummer when a ten-15 year old charge prevents them from getting a better job etc. it’s life though and again I’m not speaking in difference of these guys as I’m not up on any of the you tube watch things this is just something that bothers me as you get a decade plus of clean time and have no legal issues it’s tough seeing people held back due to mistakes of the past. I’m dealing with a case now of someone who caught a serious charge as the cops weren’t clear what exactly happened and arrested everyone in the house. This dude was not involved or aware. So sometimes when people do have serious charges there is more to the story. Sorry little rant as it just bothers me. Thanks

Ugh… so the latest is that the DFs behind TPG have scheduled a livestream reveal for the 6th. I’d share the link, but if you’re so inclined to join, you can find it yourself on their channel.

I don’t even know what to say to that. You disappear with everyone’s watches and money and livestream a big reveal…

I read somewhere they are asking people to give them more money for their VIP group. 🍿

I think some might have blind loyalty and others may fear that not contributing more would mean them losing the original benefits or at least not being able to get anything back.

I believe it’s going forward they will double the original cost of $2k for new members. Those that bought in will retain their existing benefits. Wondering if this significant increase has to do with the Netflix rumor.

there is a lot of question on this, particularly their finacial condition prior to closure. are they in debt? do they have creditors? do they have other sufficient assets? consigned watches could be forfeited? just my 2 cents.
