Hello to everyone!!
Well, I wasn't able to manage to hold the desire to click the bid button and I won this on an auction 馃え
Described as an 2179/5 with no internal and case back photos it was a bit of a gamble I know but the watch arrived and everything look correct in my opinion. Case back is indeed stamped 2179/5, the movement is the correct 30T2SC from 1944 considering the serial, hands are correct and most probably relumed (?), the case looks and feels sharp but doesn't have the vertical factory brushing I saw in another post here so probably had a light polish in the past, dial has aged (smoked 馃榿) to a beautiful copper if you see it up close and it seems untouched..

My concerns are these..
I did recearch the refference and I understand 2179/5 made US Army and civilian versions of the refference, but never came across that type of dial. I saw it only here:
https://omegaforums.net/threads/questionable-omega-us-army-watch-caliber-30t2sc-ref-2179-3.52845/
by @tdn-dk as a 2179/6 馃憥 I then searched 2179/6 and again not many with that type of dial too!!
Also is that crown correct? And having the watch at hand I notice if you shake it you can feel the dial/movement move just a bit inside the case. Is that a considerable issue and can it be rectified by a service? The watch is going straight for one as it runs quite fast.
Do you mention something else I am missing?
Thank you for your time guys.

Case screws appear to be missing. I have a longines into my watchmaker to have screws installed. He informed me not a big issue as long as the prior screws weren't broken off.

I'm not sure if they are missing. When a movement spacer was installed, most of the time screws weren't used to fix it to the case.

The US Army watches are reference 2179/2 and /3. It has never been determined if later Ref. 2179 watches with the radial numeral dial were purchased by the US Army.

Yours is almost certainly a civilian watch. Very nicely preserved. The dial lacquer on these were always an issue. With that and the liberal use of radium, you find some unusual patina on the the dials.

Enjoy,

Thank you for the replies!! Yes I saw those blank holes but wasn't sure what they are for. I guess my watchmaker should address this with no issues right?
@gatorcpa indeed it has aged well!! And I love that case and in those dimensions (35mm), it reminds me of a Cyma dirty dozen I had once upon a time

Here is my example of Ref. 2179/5:

Mine has both the case screws and the spacer. I think you should get the screws replaced if you can.

While mine was not issued, it came from a military family and was an award for winning a basketball tournament in 1946.

No need for case srews! All these models with a retainer ring lack case screws and this is correct.

Oh ok. I thought the rattle of the movement might be related with the absence of these screws

Most probably related to the retainer ring being slightly out of shape.

or maybe of the wrong size (wrong replacement)? I have several watches with retainer rings (and without case screws) and none of them rattles

Possible. But with those retaining rings, if the 8 "ears" are flattened they do not push against the caseback and allow some movement. Carefully bending them back to their original shape usually takes care of the problem, must have happened 2 times out of three for me..
