Obviously there has been a lot of chats about the Rolex Milgauss on here already and I think its a great watch. I'm considering parting with a lump of change for one and wondered before I do what you good people would consider instead?

The New Rolex Airking and Explorer are also very nice watches ! The Milgauss has one of the most comfortable bracelets i've ever worn thou. If you go Milgauss I would consider the Green Glass Z-Blue Dial variant.

Oh and don't forget about the Date just 2 in 41 mm. Wears considerably larger than the diameter would suggest, very nice watch !

(A Colleagues watch, thou sadly not mine)

I would love an original but I'm not prepared to sell a kidney as well

Green glass blue dial is the one I'm considering

In the vintage arena - the only one in which I play - there is a fine alternative in the IWC Ingenieur. I have owned more than a few ref. 666 and ref. 866 models. While certainly not cheap, they are significantly less expensive than a vintage Milgauss. Here are a couple of examples.

Cheers,

Tony C.

Here's my clear glass black dial - an unpopular and quickly discontinued model, but I love it :

I think the green glass Mil is one of their best. For me my trusty GMT Master 2 is all the Rolex I need.

I was going to say the same thing myself, really nice watches and seemingly overlooked most of the time.

I don't think there is a bad colour in this watch. just personal preference .

For me the green submariner is too much, while the green (or Orange) Milgauss is just the right amount of color.

It's on my list, just need to move a few pieces.

How about the 8500 AT? More antimagnetic protection and no hideous thunderbolt seconds hand either... 馃榾

hmmm ... donno ... I personally find the lighting bolt second hand a bit "infantile" ... plus now that all omega "regular" models trump the Milgauss per default ... I feel that takes a bit of its merit away ...

there are some truely nice 39mm OPs out there!!!

if you will go 36mm than there are also VERY nice Oyster Perp's:

both in 3-6-9

and in baton

I would recommend the new Caliber Master Co-axial from Omega, it way more advance then Milgauss and Magnetism proof to 15,000 GAUSS.

I would go with the Aqua Terra or Seamaster 300M
=)

I found my Milgauss just a bit too shiny (the white dial version), so be prepared for that.

I think the Aqua Terra's and new Ingenieur are perfect alternatives; I would rate them both higher than the Milgauss (looks wise).

Didn't the Inge get knocked for having a Sellita movement (iirc that it's a ETA KNOCKOFF).
