So... any of our members here have an interest in firearms?

Given that the US just rearmed the Taliban & Al Qaeda with state-of-the-art weapons, vehicles, and night vision equipment; plus a ready supply of American hostages, that commemorative badge won't age well. :|

Edit: international forum, don't want to throw any other country under the bus, so I swapped "the US" in for "we".
This the the firearms thread. The war/politics thread doesn’t exist, which should tell you something.

I just brought home a couple of Nikko O/Us that my dad bought, probably around 1970 in Japan. Nikko has an interesting but somewhat unclear story, but they were manufacturing Winchester Model 101s under an agreement that they not export the same firearm. Winchester eventually became unamused that Nikko was taking the most interesting wood for their own use and using the leftovers for the Winchester guns. The last straw was when Nikko started exporting. Reputedly, they are high quality shotguns but not big with collectors, so they make good shooters. Taking one to a gunsmith today. I’ll add pics before I go.

@64Wing @Observer
My apologies. A little anger overflow. It’s stowed.
No worries man. I'm sure many of your sentiments on the issue are shared. I've just seen most war & politics threads get locked and thought it would be a shame to have this thread shut down. Lots of really cool guns and stories here!

Alright y'all. I'm debating whether I want to go with a hybrid optic system or not. I was looking at the EOTech EXPS3 with the G33 or G43 magnifier. Anyone have experience with the magnifiers? I've used the holographic systems and prefer them (greatly) over the red dots

I use the EOTech XPS3 with the Vortex 3x micro on two rifles. Great combination; I’m sure the EOTech magnifier is as good or better. You will be flipping the magnifier off or removing it when running with nods.
I’ve ran with red dots and with holographic sights; I prefer holographic. It’s a personal thing though, I don’t think my opinion means much. Try both and see what works best with your rifle and your shooting style/purpose.

Thanks man! I've run both holo's and dots and (for me) I just can't like dots. Though, I do love the candy...

I'll probably just stick the EXPS3 on there and run it at 1x for the foreseeable future. Unless I can find a smokin' deal on the G33

Anybody have experience running Federal Hydrashocks in their EDC? I can't seem to find any,but they've been recommended to me seemingly repeatedly this week

Use Federal Hydroshock 124’s as carry ammo.

Have run a box through the Glock 19. Works fine, but almost anything works in a Glock.

I have not shot anyone lately with it, so I can’t answer to that part of the equation.

Starting to see a little bit of hollow the points show up on the shelves now.

Yeah I've been looking for them. Been carrying critical defense for over a year.

Honestly, I received a recommendation from my buddy the Sergeant (Sheriff's department) to hit the range with the Federal rounds and that I'd notice the difference.

I carry with Federal HST in .45ACP in a 1911. I got a 9mm because a 1911 weighs a crapton loaded and got HST in 9mm 147gr but I haven't gotten out to shoot it yet.

My 1911s will run Hydra-shok or HST all day (except expensive!). HST is more advanced, which is why I switched. Some sellers claim HST is "law enforcement only" but of course that's nonsense.

Have Critical Defense 115g also, this is in the Glock 45 right now.

Same deal, shoots fine. Recoil with 115g vs 124g, no difference to me. But what do I know.

For the fun of it one of these days I’m gonna get some 85g 9mm and see how it feels.

Have not bought any ammo for over a year now, might be close to two. Unfortunately I lost my supply in the tragic boating accident.

More than a few police agencies use the hydra shock. Whether due to legal liability or projectile performance is hard to say from the outside, but probably mainly availability and price. I do not have personal experience with using it in a defense situation, but it shot fine in a glock .40. Nothing really noteworthy like the Underwood performance ammo. That Underwood ammo was screaming. I could not call it .40 short and weak that day... No hating on the .40 carried one for years (sig, glock and even a daewoo (yes they made a good cheap pistol)) and the data does not lie, it works.

Went to the gun shop today to buy some mags. Grabbed two 30-round and two 20-round. Got all the way home and realized the 20-round mags are 7.62...I'm an idiot.
