Snoopy question

Value aside, I think the Snoopy’s utterly lame. The James Bond Seamasters drenched in 007 branding are crap enough but a cartoon dog all over the dial and caseback. Looks ridiculous to me and imo they’ll age terribly.

I’d go original all the way.

@Davidt

This one can't be lame??😀

Most of my work was with Lieb - both as sideman and leader.
I have two records on CMP - both out of print now but of course that's because the label went belly up when Kurt sold it off to a London based, primarily soundtrack oriented, imprint called Silva Screen Records - one was released featuring Liebman and the other shelved and never saw the light of day (with Bob Moses & Steve Swallow).
I think it's still available on eBay Germany and Japan for purchase otherwise it's on Apple iTunes digitally and I believe it's on streaming services Spotify & Amazon Music:
Scott Cutshall "Zyphoid Process" if you're interested.
Oh My God.
I have it as a digital file.I love "Poetics". What a track.

Just my $0.02:

I've only been an Omega watch owner for a couple of months. When I first started looking at Omegas and deciding on which would be my first, I ran into an offering for a Snoopy 50th. It was expensive, but within my budget. However, my first reaction was to laugh, just thinking about wearing an expensive, luxury watch with a cartoon character on the dial.

As I learned more about it and the scarcity of such a find, I started beating on myself mentally for passing up on it. But now that I'm over it, I'm glad I didn't buy it - I would not have been at ease wearing it often. Perhaps it would have been cool to get it and let it sit in a drawer for a few years and eventually make a buck or a bunch of bucks on it, but I was on the hunt for a watch to wear, not to store.

I love Snoopy but for memorabilia or collector's pieces, I'd rather buy a plush or plastic Snoopy doll, vintage cartoon strips, etc. For a watch, I want to buy something I want to wear.

This thread reminded me of an old cliché rhyme that my mother used to say in her native language: "from fashion, what accommodates you." We all have different tastes and different motives, so to each their own - no wrong answers here.

That’s a great point. I went back yesterday and looked agsin at all three contenders. Much as the colours on the snoopy are fabulous, and I appreciate the history, the snoopy on the front is quite off putting. So it will be between the sandwich dial 57 reissue or the moon watch pro. Threefactors will decide- legibility , wearability, and which one will complement my railmaster best. My wrist is 16.5 cm, I’ve always thought that a 42 cm watch woukd be too big. But damn, the short lug length on the pro makes it wear smaller. Both really nice watches, no wrong answer
I appreciate everyone’s thoughts!

I think it doesn’t have to be anymore complicated than if you love it buy it, if you fall out of love, sell it.

What you think of it is simply down to personal taste. A great watch always alienates some people otherwise it’s just a plain good watch.

True but I’m not really a flipper. If its comfortable and I like looking at it , then I’ll wear it, and for a long time. The NZ dollar sucks against the US so in our terms these are all quite spendy. Good point you make though

The Snoopy in the sub dial is not that noticeable in daily wear, especially from a distance. This is similar to people complaining about Buzz Aldrin’s butt in the Apollo 11
50th. Photos are typically zoomed in. From a distance, it looks like a silver and blue panda Speedy.

If it helps, I love mine just as much as I did when I picked it up in nov 2021.

Would definitely trade my 50th anniversary snoopy (Snoopy3?) for Snoopy2 or even a Snoopy1.

Different strokes for different folks.

Poor Snoopy 50th, nobody loves him.

Snoopy or Not, Limited edition or Not.

This is by far the astatically nicest Speedmaster since the Alaska Project IMHO.

I’d choose the Snoopy. It is not only my favourite Omega but, in its price range, my favourite watch period.

The Snoopy is my first and only Omega. I remember looking at the launch photos thinking ‘how shall I justify that?’ when my wife looked over my shoulder and said ‘oh my god, you have to buy that watch!’. We were off to an AD first thing in the morning to order one.

It isn’t perfect to me. I would rather delete the Snoopy and get rid of the animation in favour of an exhibition case-back, but that Silver and Blue combination is lovely to my eyes. Here’s mine…

That said, I am mulling over a new ‘57 in green; something that has caught my attention recently and seems to be far enough away from the Snoopy aesthetically that they don’t overlap much, if at all.

OP, maybe the correct answer is both?

To close the loop, and thank you to everyone who replied. Very hard decision , but no wrong answer and I'm very happy.
The decision is obvious from photos, and baby brother photobombed one 😀. Apologies for appalling photographic skill.

Buying a Snoopy 50th at retail makes sense to me, but are buyers also picking them up by paying secondary market prices?
