SMP 300m Rubber Strap - deployment or buckle?

When I bought my Diver 300M Nekton Edition, it came with the standard buckle. Later I bought the Omega deployant and related Omega strap from my AD. I've not regretted my decision once. Two reasons: speed and safety. The watch is my daily wearer. I can take the watch off/on in around 2 seconds and I never worry about dropping it. Especially going thru metal detectors at airports.
No reason to be removing your watch through the metal detectors. And countless reasons to avoid removing it

I do not have experience with both, only the buckle version. Beside the price, my choice was based on that when I have the watch on a rubber strap, it will be used as a tool watch/beater. Meaning everything from playing with my kid, working on my bike, whatever water activity etc. And even though I have never accidentally opened an clasp/deployant (knock on wood etc!) I feel that a regular buckle is safer…

Call me crazy 🤪 But that also saved me a couple of bucks, which I put towards a leather strap with a deployant for my speedy (still waiting though)
The deployant clasp is actually the same for both watches. So unless you rotate heavily between them you can use the same one.

To the OP, I've had the regular buckle and got rid of it. The rubber strap is very rigid and it felt very cumbersome to put it on and take it back off.

I've got the white dial Seamaster and looking to get the OEM rubber strap but not sure whether to go for the standard buckle version or splash out for the deployment version.

For reference I was told the deployment version is £490 all in. How can I justify paying almost £500 for a rubber strap

Anyone got experience of both versions?

I have had the 300M on the bracelet and recently acquired a new one on Rubber. I opted to buy the Omega rubber strap and deployment strap. Yes, $500 is steep, but in my opinion worth every penny.

Hmmmmm. Owned a 300 m with the bracelet and transitioned to the Omega rubber strap. Loved it. Yep, it's pricey but the quality remains long after the price is forgotten. A cheap strap for an Omega is kind of like buying a Porsche 718 Cayman GT 4 and then walking into AutoZone when it needs brakes and asking for a set of brake pads. Might fit but . . . . bet it sure would stop funny.

Yes, never remove your watch going through a metal detector. Always ask them to wand or pat you down if necessary. To many things can happen when removing…. Drop it, gets stuck in the metal detector because it fell out of the tray on the belt, stolen at the other end because you had to walk back through a few times, on and on and on…

The original is no comparison at all to any of the cheap versions. I must have spent almost as much as the original strap cost trying to find a cheap one that actually fit correctly and that I liked. You spent the money on the watch, spend the money on the strap.

I just puchased the "S" version of the strap for deployant clasp, and I think it is still a bit long on my 18cm wrist. Here how it looks. Standard M/L is even longer than this one :/

You sure thats a the small version? cause I have the standard strap which is the medium and an 18cm wrist and I wear it in the exact whole you are.

Whats the part number on the inside of the strap?

I have ref. 032CVZ015752, which is 101,7mm long on 12 o'clock side and 105,05mm on 6 o'clock.

The M/L "standard" version (the one you get with new watch when buying on strap) is 111,7mm long on 12 o'clock side and 115,05mm on 6 o'clock (ref.: 032CVZ015757)

I'll play devil's advocate here. I think a good ol' fashioned tang buckle works better for smaller wrists. Plus if you're a desk diver, deployant strap is always thicker on the underside of your wrist which could cause some discomfort.

I have the same part number as yours and I specifically requested the medium.

FYI, got the below from another forum,

Small: 032CVZ015754 – (18.575cm)
Regular Length: 032CVZ015752 – (20.675cm)
Large: 032CVZ015755 - (22.675cm)

Unfortunately the pin of SMP buckle is curved in such a strange way, that putting it on & off is an absolute pain in the a**. It IS very safe when you put it on, no question about it, surely way to go if you really use the watch for it's primary purpose (diving), otherwise for me it's a NO-GO (I had it, tried to get used to for quite substantial amount of time, did not work with me).

I have the artem sailcloth straps with the clasp. The straps are great; the clasp is just ok. Seems a little flimsy. I'm actually contemplating upgrading to the omega.

I think GECKOTA makes best generic deployant clasps for standard straps. Very robust, good quality, no flimsiness.

I have both 18mm and 16mm to get rid of now, both with laser-engraved Omega logo. PM me for details if interested.

FYI, I have the Small size ref 032CVZ015754. My wrist size is also 18cm, I wear it on the 3rd to last or 2nd to last (if my wrist is swelling), so there's not as much rubber overlap as yours with the Regular size. It's not as thick on the clasp side as shown in your pic. I can send pics if you want.

I love the foldover clasp (deployment/deployant) clasp/strap so much better than the pin and buckle.
I have 3 omega deployment clasps on different watches. I have only 1 pin/buckle clasp.
The deployment is safer, in my opinion, and even know it's 3 layers, the straps are thinner at the buckle. it's not bulky at all.

PS.
BTW, according to Grammarly, deployant isn't even a word!!!!

Of course by that standard we cannot use the terms: lume, caseback, chrono, etc. 😀
