Thanks @Archer

as a lover of vintage yema supermen, I am always having to deal with lume falling out of hands.

I'd call them if I could but I am deaf and cannot use a phone; hence, email.
Sorry to hear that I have worked with deaf people I know that phone set up can be troubling I hope it’s gotten better as it’s was 6 or so years ago I was working with a few deaf deaf people. Always felt bad they couldn’t enjoy music but as they told me you can’t miss what you never had or experienced. They seemed to have developed some heightened sensations in other perceptions.

Update: Larry S. generously offered to join me on my visit back to MJ, and I couldn't have had a better person beside me--calm, cool, friendly, but also all business.

Various options were discussed. The ideal one, as mentioned here by a few people--replacement Tritium hands--would have been nice, but challenging because of their scarcity--where would we find them? Reluming was another option considered, but it brought up the question of who would do it--and (in my mind) what would constitute an acceptable standard. The final decision was: MJ would obtain and install a new set of Omega hands, and also return the old ones to me--which perhaps Hyman or someone else could match to the lume on the dial. It wasn't a perfect solution, but in a situation like this, there's no perfect solution--it's all sort of middling.

When I asked MJ why they hadn't contacted me when the lume broke, he said (as well as I could understand) that the watchmaker assumed it wasn't important enough to mention--which struck me as a a bit of a stretch for a watchmaker working on a vintage watch. (Larry, if I misunderstood this part, please correct me.)

So--I can't thank Larry enough for keeping things level, and for wrangling with a difficult communication situation (he used speech recognition on his phone)--and for going out of his way to help. It's people like him that make this Board really great.

Walrus--yes, there's some pretty good tech stuff to help with deaf communication now--email, texting, speech recognition--and it all helps a bit, but there's still a lot of room for improving the speech recognition stuff--. I usually use sign language, but Mrs. Muddlerminnow was working today and couldn't come along to translate--so I'm especially grateful for Larry's help.

Of course, all is now said, but not yet done--I'll have an update again in July.

Thanks everyone for your input.

I think you about summed it up. We pushed over that but they did apologize. As we’ve discovered previously, dealing with Lume is a specialty. New hands on their dime, return of the old for a sympathetic relume somewhere. Silver lining: Two more OF watch nerds connected. Lunch and watch pickup pending!
