Totally agree with you here. I almost bought the 42mm longings about a year ago but it’s just to big for me. This is ideal size !

I'm seven and a half and I'd say it worked well for me. Didn't keep it though.

Always wondered if the relatively quick price hikes from all major brands (say over last 8 years) makes them push the overall package a little larger to give the impression of value being represented in your purchase.
Larger cases, larger nicer boxes = larger prices.
I know great strides in movements and materials has been made which do factor in the final price but just my cynical side thinking out loud. I think the watch that started the thread looks fab.

I think we have seen a few upsized reissues that turned out to be huge dissapointments like the Hamilton Intramatic ‘68 Chrono becuase it was just too big at 42mm (minimal bezel, all dial to the edge). If they had done that watch in 38mm, I think it would have appealed to a much wider audience, both male and female, collectors and trend buyers.
They modified it during last year. It now exists in 40mm 😉 I think it is now a decent size and the subdials also look better.
Contrast date is still missing though... (except on the blue one🥰)

The trouble with these smaller watches can be that while the case size is reduced the height of the cases don't always follow with the result being you have a small top heavy and out of proportion wristwatch.
Totally agree, that is a problem I’ve experienced. I think at 12mm with 18mm lugs, Longines got it right.

Yes, a chronograph is a good example. I've previously owned a Sinn 756 Diapal, a great watch, but it always seemed that it could have done with a couple of more mm wider and it would have made the watch look, feel and more importantly wear that bit better.

Yeah too many 42 and up watches around. Some seiko dials like that bright orange monster one I really like but don’t want one that big. 37-39 I like or smaller in vintage. It’s strange how even a mm makes such a difference in watches. I was on a midsize kick for years. I was always afraid anything bigger didn’t fit right on me. Now that I’ve expanded my collection and find 40 looks good all my midsize look small. I still wear them as they are good watches. I’d like to see more choices in size to many are only available in 44mm or so and I can’t pull that off.

I have skinny, scrawny wrists. I like 34 - 36mm watches.
I look at new watches and many of them are wider and heavier than I want to wear.
I’m comfortable with a 60s,70s watch that I forget is on my wrist.
If I were to go for a new one, I suspect I’d be going for a Longines Heritage Conquest.

Thought I’d insert some wristies of my scrawny wrists 😀

Seiko discontinuing the SKX013 is an example of how the giants are slow to respond- and typical of the Japanese being behind the trend, thinking they are leading it.
In 2010 Panasonic discontinued the Technics SL1200 series turntable after over 30 years of constant production -at the peak of the vinyl resurgence! It took them 8 years to reintroduce it and the place in the market where they dominated had already been filled.

Is a PO 41-42 mm, no date, 14mm thick, asking too much?

Just saw this

Next to an original one

Looks like the industry may be swinging the pendulum back to “normal” sizes. The Rado Captain Cook at 37mm was a breathe of fresh air to me as a return to sane sizing, then they brought out the big ones which made me think it was just a fluke.

Any others going back to “regular” size?
That's such great news for me, cuz I always found myself limited in the number of contemporary watches I could pull off with my tiny wrists.

My eyes!!! 😲

I counter that with this workhorse- 33mm, one of the most comfortable watches I own. With short sleeves, yes they appear a little dinky, but with long sleeves they are perfection.

Funny how nato style straps can help bulk up a small watch 😀
