Silver Snoopy order process may drive me away from Omega

I understand the frustration. Like others observed, this could easily be a Rolex story if you replaced Omega with Rolex and Snoopy with New Submariner. Even though I don't really care for Rolex (Explorer GMT or GMT Master II are the only models I'd consider), I hate how the circumstances around (trying to buy) a Rolex are a bigger ongoing discussion than anything about the actual timepieces and I hope that doesn't become the norm for Omega.

TBH, if it were me, I'd call your nearest AD, order the new 3861 Moonwatch (in sapphire or hesalite) and get the same METAS certified movement as the Snoopy, see if you can swing a bit of a discount, take delivery of it within the next month or so and pocket the savings for a well-earned holiday when this thing is finally over.

It feels good to stand on principle and say you won't pay over List Price, but remember that Omega (or Rolex or Ferrari and many other brands) don't set the true price, the market does. That's why you can't buy a Daytona for $13.2, the market values them at twice that. You either accept that or you'll be perpetually frusrrated. In Snoopy's case, hang on, you'll eventually get one at close to list price.

hyperbeasts

I think you mean “hypebeast” 😁

on what is supposedly a non LE piece

Non-LE, but still limited production. If it were LE, you’d have near zero chance of getting hands on one at MSRP; but since limited production, you may still (combined with patience)

but I can understand an absence of patience 👍

Any advice on how to obtain this watch at a reasonable price would be appreciated.
Aaron
First of all, thanks for your hard work on the frontline.

As for advice, I would email directly their CEO, Raynald Aeschlimann. I find that going to the top usually gets results. Don't waste time with the lower employees, especially at the Boutiques since they have no power whatsoever. Send an email with what you just wrote in your post and see what happens. I know that Aeschlimann has said that anyone who wants one will not be denied so call him out on it.

Omega has the email convention of [email protected] so you should be able to figure out his email address 😀

Good luck and report back what he says!

I too called the local boutique and expressed interests of going on wait list for the watch but was told it was not possible as the wait list is about 8xx people long and the wait time will be years. However, I would have to say the person who answered the phone (introduced himself as the manager) was very professional and he did not give the same "you are not welcome here unless you have spent $$$$ here" talk

I love these funny complaints.
Is this Snoopy the only game in town? Why not just to say “thank you good bye” and to buy another watch, Omega or other?
I personally can’t stand any waiting lists to pay my own money. It’s ridiculous.
I don't understand posts like these.
If the OP had settled for a particular watch, why would he want to buy another model ?

I hear ya, OP, both with the occupation and its demands, especially this year, and the frustration. I think the suggestion above to email Omega directly is a good one, as might be following up with ADs and OBs cancellation lists. There should be spaces opening up, even if it takes a while. And even some who got in early will be waiting for a good while yet.

I'm not sure that these are going to be discounted in the secondary market anytime soon, but the premium is bound to diminish over time, and there will def be a few who try and decide to move on. Chin up, and good luck with the job moving forward -- I know how burned out some of my colleagues are here in Canada and the UK.

Surprised to see this coming from a fellow physician. This is quite the first world problem. I diagnose or restage cancer in someone literally every day I work and occasionally treat them too (both palliative and curative intent). Thank god I don't have any health problems similar to my patients as they have it really bad sometimes but at least have a chance with access to healthcare literally billions in the world still don't. My take is the same for watches...yes I own an Omega and plan on getting another one in 2021 but if it doesn't work out who cares. I still have food, shelter, water, smartphone, internet, electricity, HVAC, a car, fast food/delivery to my door, air travel for cheap, anything I want stream to my TV, etc...better than most today and better than royalty just a few decades ago and certainly a century ago. I wouldn't worry about it.

Salesperson should have NEVER, EVER mentioned supply and demand.

But he wasn’t wrong...

Thank you all for your thoughts. I was told by multiple OBs today that they aren't even taking wait list names as they are sold out for the entire production run... one took my name/number but said to basically not count on getting one.
So that's the reason for my frustration, for a non-LE product the OBs are telling me that the entire production run is already accounted for with deposit-paying customers. I would have been fine with putting a deposit down for a delivery in 12+ months...
I wasn't expecting them to have one in stock anywhere today, but to say Omega has already sold out of the production run with pre-orders I was shocked and irritated.
They will have another production run. Many of the people on the list are flippers and will not take the watch when offered as price comes down.

This.

The current production run (i.e. 2021) maybe sold in and out so further orders/deposits have been halted for now. I suspect the next run is still to be allocated, be it in one or two years time...

... repeat.

Ok, so I knew at some point I would get the first world problem lecture... Yes, I fully accept that this is a first world problem, but I have not disclosed my profession as a demand for respect or reverence. Rather it speaks to the level of frustration I have felt this year and to the lack of time I have had to dedicate toward finding and securing an order for a particular watch I have been interested in for years (specifically the Apollo 13/Snoopy connection). Yes I realize how lucky I am to be able to still pay my bills while taking a pay cut this year because of the pandemic and yet still having to risk my own health everyday to care for the waves of patients (Covid and not) that I see everyday. I chose Emergency Medicine specifically because I take care of my fellow men/women without regard to their socioeconomic standing.
I never said I would worry about not getting the watch, nor would my life be changed for the worse. But remember, this is not a LE piece. I'm not trying to buy a LaFerrari, or a Rolex Daytona. There is a particular emotional draw for me to the anniversary Snoopy watches as my 13 year old is a space nut and we have spent hours together reading about the history of the space program, watching documentaries, and building lego sets of the Apollo rocket... It is a common interest in watch that would mean something to him after I am long gone.
So forgive me if I have ever given the impression that I deserve this watch for any other reason than that I am a paying customer who is frustrated by the communication I have had with the representatives of a company of which I am a fan. That was not the intent of this post. Believe it or not, I don't get to buy expensive watches every year. I have literally been watching since the 45th Snoopy to see what Omega would bring for the 50th. It is 100% my fault and lack of knowledge that I didn't get in on the ground floor of the order process sooner. I appreciate all the encouraging comments and suggestions. At least now I have some kind of game plan going forward. Purchasing another watch and then this watch later probably isn't the best bet for my finances at the moment... I'll hold out for securing one in the future one way or another, just not at the markup the 45th Snoopy experienced.

Agreed.
But then again.
What's the difference between a salesperson making a commercial decision as which customers they ultimately have to prioritise given limited resourses, and a medic that has to prioritise who gets treatment and who is to be left in the hands of the lord due to limited resources.
Same difference from a certain point of view.

I know this👎
The consequences are very different despite the best of intentions🙁

You know that while you were watching since the 45th.
You have had plenty of time to easily pick one up. And for less than they are asking now👍

Time waits for no man, and never let the grass grow under your feet.
Now that's a couple of great life lessons to share with the young fella at his age😉

thank you for your service during this horrendous time. I never took your post as anything more than frustration for something you were passionate about. Keep trying the OBs, when you have time, to see when they will start taking orders again. In the meantime, the new moonwatch looks fantastic and might satisfy your childhood space dreams. I recommend the sapphire sandwich so you can enjoy the new movement. Good luck!

Thanks for all the comments/opinions... Unfortunately I understand that some of my dissatisfaction is my own doing as I purchased my speedmaster moonwatch through one of the resellers on this board and not an OB. Part of that decision was due to the fact that there are no OBs and even no ADs within 3 hours of my home... and I didn't realize how the OB influenced future purchases, especially of limited or high demand pieces. Unfortunately, the second choices I listed were based on paying the flipper premium. So an Lange isn't really in the budget. Maybe one of the JLCs would be, but I think I may just pay down some debt and wait for the next opportunity. I went sort of overboard on my loved one's Hanukkah presents partly out of guilt at how crappy 2020 had been to our family. Believe it or not, revenue is down even though the pandemic has hit us hard because overall ER volume is down by as much as 60%... never mind the fact that people seem more critically ill. Ah, the business of healthcare is even worse than the business of selling watches!
Still, I guess I'll have to get over the bad taste I have in my mouth for Omega and realize 2020 was hard on everyone and hope supply and communication will improve going forward. I also hope the OBs are going to see enough supply to fill orders of first time purchasers down the line... I refuse to pay the premium to a flipper on what is supposedly a non LE piece.
I sincerely appreciate your comments, and the opportunity to gripe to the internet audience...
Aaron

I understand your position, as I also have been confused by the method of confirming my interest for a few Omega pieces. I've had multiple expensive watches, and have settled into having only a few - mostly Omegas. It seems I find out about a particular watch months after they're announced, and then see the listings on the flipper market, as do you. It's discouraging. In my case, I spoke to OBs who are only taking names and adding them to a list, some are taking full deposits - something difficult to justify when there is no ETA. BTW, I am not looking for the same piece as you.

Keep the positive advice posted above, I don't entertain the snarky replies, since everyone can be a critic. Those posting constructive advice are worth reading. Perhaps continue to phone ADs and OBs to see what they recommend. Though I do have my heart set on the piece I described above, I also am interested in at least two in regular production - which could entertain me through the waiting period.

Last, thank you for your service this past year, we could not have made it without determined healthcare workers like you. I could tell you a long story about a shoulder, and a wrist. . .

Don;t waste yr time with all the BS hype at the AD's - buy a vintage speedie and the new 2021 sapphire sandwich, get two for the price of one and keep the 5-10K (or more) change. You are going to get way better enjoyment (researching the vintage purchase, then wearing it on special occasions, and a way more practical wear at work etc ...with less stress you will damage or lose or have it stolen ...with the new just released professional model...) Just MO.
