Here's another. Astronaut DayNight GMT with coffin Kreisler band. Good enough for Cooper and Carpenter, good enough for me. Gordon Cooper Gordon Cooper weigh in Ed Carpenter eating lunch with his daughter.
Bought it purely on the basis of aesthetics, but apparently the Landeron 4750 movement is also a pretty good one. Oh, and also a compressor case!
Although I know I've already show this one off on this tread I couldn't resist putting some more pics up, I've been wearing it for the last fortnight and I love it and a few people has asked me for some more pics. This is one of two radial dial speedsonics I have, the other has a very worn dial and is only the movement, dial and hands (still hunting for a new star case for that one) This on however is complete and in all its glory, no serial number just 12 engraved on the movement plate, note also the non Swiss radial dial. Pretty cool things are very very rare! Only ever seen two others, one in the Alaska display in Bienne and one for sale through the Sachs brothers 12 - 18 of these went to NASA for testing in 1978 along with 16 11003's and 54 radial dial moon watches This is by far most precious hummer
Some of my latest "hummers" .I which the bezel where as nice as the one @Northernman s 198.029 . But can't have it all. I have an old bezel that i am thinking of having laseredged in original type. Tropic looking good @omegastar
Awesome Spaceview!! I have my stepfather's vintage one ... He wore it every day for over twenty years. It's one of the early 1960s models - I haven't been able to source a battery for it in almost a decade.
The movement can be adjusted to accept the slightly higher voltage of modern batteries as part of a service, alternatively there are adapters to be bought. Have it service anyhow!
The Helbros probably has a PUW 1001 or 2001 movement . A electronic movement that has a balance like a usual movement . But the Hummers has a movement with tuning forks that vibrates at high pitch. That is what makes the humming sound. If you listen to a Helbros you will only hear a ticking sound from the balance wheel. Take a look at http://electric-watches.co.uk/ I like your watch though and i think it's a rather rare little bird?
Ah, thank you! That makes good sense, and it shows how little I know about the genre. And yes, this Helbros model isn't easy to find.
I think the Helbros should have a PUW 1000 movement instead of PUW 1001 (with day function). Attached is one of my Helbros collection.
You cannot even call the Helbros a electronic watch like those hummers because there is no electronic inside it. Only a moving coil and a magnet, it is a pure electric watch.
I showed file photos of 4 of mine in an earlier post. Here is a picture of 15 of mine, with (forgive me) 1 Bulova Quartz railroader, 1Rodania Quartz railroader, and a Bulova Computron (just to fill all the spaces). All of them run, with good batteries, but only 5 in this picture are running, including my only Omega F300. My original 214 Accutron is shown, upper left. 51 years old, and still runs and looks like new. She's on her third circuit, and third index wheel, but she runs great!
