I have an identical one; also with box, owners manual, and hang tag. Got it virtually new old stock in approximately 2004. I'd be Curious to know what it goes for if you don't mind my asking.

i did sell it within the past year or so, on this forum. If you search for the listing, the stated asking price is probably not too far off it’s ultimate sales price (though I admit I don’t remember off had the exact ultimate sales price)

Noticed that my hummer had stopped at midnight on a couple of occasions. I then recalled a thread which suggested that some watches are better left face down when not being worn.

Well, if last night is anything to go by, that’s how I’ll keep it.

Just goes to show how reading OF threads which may have absolutely no relevance at the time (I didn’t even own a hummer when I read it) can come back in the mind when needed.

Lovely watch!

If you are not using it for some time (more than overnight) I would suggest to pull the crown out in order to stop the watch.
It is not getting easier to find service parts for these, and at least if you, like me, are using different watches in rotation, it make sense to save the humming for when it is needed.
Battery life will be extended as well.

Cheers!

Stopped while buzzing or not buzzing? In any case seemed concerning to me, time for a cleaning/service I guess?

Just at midnight with all three hands overlaid. I think they probably got in each other’s way

Good reason to at least get it looked at.

i was previously quoted £300 for a service, which is about what I paid for the watch and, probably, more than it’s worth. Apart from the couple of blips I posted about, it’s running fine

Or maybe time to change the battery 😉
Thanks but the battery is recent and is fine.

I’m confident (famous last word 😉) that for some reason - and probably the one I mentioned at the start - that when all three hands come together at midnight, there’s what we call a traffic jam and what you on the other side of the Atlantic describe as a gridlock. Forgive me if I’ve got the terminology wrong

And thanks again for all the advice.

My original intention was to share the original idea someone else had posted - probably about a mechanical watch - that leaving it face down might work better than face up 😀

It still makes sense like you mentioned. If the weight is off the hands they do not block each other any longer. Still something to get checked out though!

Normally the only thing that effect a tuning fork movement in a negative way is gravity acceleration like when you swing your arm with the watch.

I’m considering that the hands might have too much clearance due to wear or something else, because of which they “hang” down👎

HM Lord Chamberlain is pleased to inform you that the Hummer passed an uninterrupted night and continues to run normally 😀
