Dear All,
Here my recent acquisition, an Omega f300Hz Geneve from early seventies.
The watch is in good shape .. a bit of polywatch on the crystal, a bit of cleaning of the case .. a rubber gasket totally melted inside the back (!?) that required some cleaning and needs to be replaced, a little discoloration between indexes 4 and 5 and that’s it for the aesthetical side.
Regarding the functioning : when I received it, it was working correctly (unlike my other f300 DeVille of last year), after 15 days monitoring, it showed a shifting ahead of 2.67sec/day.
This is comfortably within COSC values, but is far from the original Omega specs (15sec deviation per month). Thus I dared an adjustment on the bobbins, one notch in the right direction .. and to my ashtonishment the watch is now showing zero deviation for the last three days … !!!
Whether it shall continue to perform like that is another question ! Time will tell.
When on the subject of accuracy : I was never interested in quartz watches, have a couple .. a Seiko, a swatch .. but lately, because of the Accutron movements and the f300Hz movements I became curious about the HAQ. I learned that in the seventies several brands produced very very accurate movements … ie Junghans or Citizen 4 mega. These watches were capable of 5spy (5 second per year) deviation ! Amazing ! The above mentioned watches are not anymore to be found. Then I discovered that the Omega Seamaster200 equipped by the quartz movement 1441 was capable of 10spy .. I am since looking to find one such watch for a decent cost.
Meanwhile in the today production there is the Certina DS2 Precidrive that is given for 10spy. I bought one out of curiosity, and indeed it is amazingly accurate … over a period of 2 months that watch is 1 second ahead … ! Too bad the watch is not very sexy, no charm ..
Thank you for your attention,
