If I knew how to legit check vintage watches I'd grab a 5513.

Fortunately, there are millions of them out there, so whenever you feel like you have the expertise, they will be available. 馃憤

I had mine on yesterday for a few minutes. Following advice from @Archer to not wear until serviced... Couple rain drops on way back to Safety Deposit Box!

I'm super nervous about posting this with how poor lume is generally received but the Omega forum seems more sympathetic to patina/damage and not always after the pristine. This one just seemed to work for me both because it was the cheapest way for me to get a 60's sub and it looks like it was found at the bottom of the ocean which I kind of like. It is busy getting a full service on the movement so this is the only shot I got before it went off to the shop.

Two questions:
* Is this original lume?
* If original, would you just say forget it and relume the dial and hands with age appropriate tritium? (thinking LAWW for the job)

My assumption through this whole thing is that an original dial even with cruddy lume is still better than a service dial.

Its probably original and at a guess I think this lume shade is water damage, up close using a loupe you may be able to see a water stain on the dial.
The lume shade is not pleasing and if you are willing to forgo originality a pleasant lume hue would make the watch far more attractive. Imho this is one of the cases where "aged look " lume would be a plus.
This would be far more acceptable than a service dial.

We will agree to differ on this as I do not think the lume looks too bad for a 53 year old watch. Ultimately it's up to the owner to decide to do with their own watch but I would recommend to wear it for a while before making a decision that cannot be undone. There are some great people out there for re-lume work (James Hyman being the obvious choice) if that is the route the poster chooses. Enjoy the watch either way

Thanks to both of you. I tend to think the lume is also original but just damaged. Since it doesn鈥檛 bother me much and I kind of like it for now, I鈥檒l probably take the advice to just slow roll my decision and I can relume if/when it starts to bug me.
