Should I trade one of my smp's towards a rolex?

I guess you will have to bring cash to balance the deal. Depends how much. Subs lost value past year.

And it's just taste matters. 10 pages of reply won't change much about that point.

I have the blue diver 300 and Rolex sub. Just picked up the Starbucks… love Omega but the Sub is just a cut above in many areas for me. Get it when you can but no reason to get rid of Omega.

OP, have you considered a Datejust? I have a SMP 300M and absolutely love it, and while I really want a “Starbucks” Sub, I can’t seem to bring myself to do it - the two watches would just be too similar in form and function to me, aside from their color schemes.

I’m leaning towards a 36mm Datejust for my next watch after a lot of consideration. It ticks the classic Rolex reference box, but provides something a bit different from my SMP 300M. Logically, I also like that my chosen “tool watch” would be less expensive than the Rolex.

Do it. The summer blue & Sub compliment each other enough to have both. Whilst 2 SMPS seem too similar even if from different eras

Beatles vs Stones here, really. Can’t go wrong. Sub is an amazing watch—the archetypal diver.

That said… I’ve owned three SMPs in various sizes and two Subs—a 5 digit and a 6. The 5 digit is superior in fit and aesthetic. The 6 is fine if you want the latest tech and ceramic, but as others have said it’s a huge step down in terms of proportion. AND while I had many people comment when I wore a Sub, no one ever notices the SMPs, or at least they don’t bother saying anything if they do—that’s a big plus in my book. I don’t like the unsolicited attention. I don’t know that people are still getting routinely mugged over their Rolexes—the hype and fever may have died down. But if you don’t want strangers making comments, you might stick with Omega.

I had a 124060 Sub and sold it. The proportions are much better than the ridiculous 114060 but still not quite right. Also, it drove me nuts that Subs are everywhere.
I fancy trying a 16710 now to see if that’s better.

Highly recommend having a Sub in your collection especially if you can get hold of a 14060M. I don’t rate the Subs with a date function. So much smoother without the cyclops. That being said, I do wear my SMP much more. When I got the sub, I took it off the bracelet and put it on a rubber band from Everest. It feels and looks better

Have you thought about a Seamaster 300 instead? For me, that’s like a cross between the SMP and Sub. Elegent tool watch with history. The Spectre one

I agree with most here that the proportions of the older subs were way better.
But still, I think the current sub is better than the current Seamaster, imo the latter is just too big from every dimension.

I bought a 114060 from an AD in 2016 and never really gelled with it. Sold it and bought a 16610. Much better than the 6 digit offerings.

Personally the Submariner is a watch that sends me cold. I went to a 50th birthday party last year and it looked like a sub owners convention. No denying the sub is a great every day wearer though but I cant help feeling its a watch worn by non WIS ie they want an instantly recognisable "good watch" that theyre going to wear for every occasion. I owned a sea dweller a few years back and I got rid of it after about a year as I couldnt get on with it. Lugs were sharp, dial too glossy and I got too many "is that a real one" and "how much was that". Theyre just too recognisable and everyone can spot one, Including thieves which is a consideration nowadays. This isnt Rolex bashing. I own one and love it but I do find myself considering where im going before putting it on which I dont have to do with other watches.

If it has to be Rolex I would go with the Yachtmaster as recommended above by another member. It has the Sub vibe with a twist. Your post hints that you may be going for a Rolex as you feel that is the next logical step but you prefer the summer blue seamaster. Why not go for one of those. For the money youre likely going to have to find for the Rolex you could possibly keep your SMP and find a bit more money for a summer blue AT/300 heritage. The summer blues are definitely worth trying in store as the Omega photos are terrible.

If you're going to get a Rolex, for the love of God please get one without that ugly ass cyclops. If you get anything with PALM FRONDS, I'll sponsor a petition to have your ass thrown off OF. 😁
