Should I Relume as needed service? Speedmaster-69

Hi OF
This is not a particularly special speedy, just one I enjoy and like wearing regularly. As you can see the lume is flaking a bit, it has never bothered me too much visually but needs a service so considering doing a relume at the same time.

I want to keep the original lume but not at the risk of the movement and further mechanical issues because of lume flake and drop. Not sure if current chrono issue (hour counter gets caught up on the hour) is related to lume flakes but it is one of the suspects.

so…. In your opinion when does replacing the lume go from optional to needed service? I am at least on the edge but probably heading towards a relume.

Thoughts appreciated, now it’s picture time!

big flake ready to fall

Dust & flake on a couple other plots
Not unattractive as-is… but you can see that big flake hanging there at 11:00
It looks okay on most plots but like I said a bit concerned about lume drop getting into the movement. Thoughts and options I may not have considered are appreciated!

I don’t know what I would do in that situation either. I know that’s not helpful but beautiful watch.

It's your watch so you can do whatever you want.

For some reason I do not understand, vintage Speedmasters go for crazy money! Tens of thousands?!

It were mine, I would ask my watchmaker to send the dial and hands out for relume. In the US, that would be Everest Watch Works. There are also recommended places in Europe.

Good luck with your decision.
