Hi guys, I have been thinking of getting my first Omega, and since I missed the awesome Constellation with dog leg lugs recently (been kicking myself ever since). I came across this example. I am worried since it seems franken, redials, and fakes are everywhere. So I am humbly seeking the collective wisdom of OF, do tell me what you think! Thank you!
Well the case looks good apart from the gouge on the back. Original crystal Movt no. matches the dial. Dial has a bit of spotting. Perhaps a bit of rotor rub? Do you have a pic of the inner case back? Is it a 14902? What’s the asking price? Not sure about the black insert hands with no black on the indices but everything else looks untouched so could be fine.
It needs to be a 14902 with that case back. I think the hands have been replaced as the indices have notches for lume so the hands should also have lume inserts..
thank you! so since the indices does not have notches, the hands should similarly not have notches too?
thank you! what causes rotor rub? let me ask the seller for a pic of the inner case back the asking price is about USD 1000, is it too much?
The lume can go extremely dark sometimes, this could be the case here as well. It wouldn't deter me, if the hands had black inlay instead of lume; at $1000 the price is competitive, I would say.
Well that fits nicely. I had the same thought about the hands as @ConElPueblo. $1000 is a pretty good price for a cross hair pie pan nowadays. You can always try knocking the seller down a bit if there is lume missing from the indices. Regarding rotor rub -if it has it - it’s a common fault and usually an easy fix with a service
many thanks for all your input! it is very much appreciated! so the hands are likely not to be the correct set for this watch, and all the other key aspects are correct? how does one go about sourcing for a correct pair of hands? one other question, the connies would usually come with a leather band and an omega buckle?
The hands may be correct. Or they may be replacements. Difficult to tell without very clear photos. I wouldn’t sweat it either way. Vintage watches rarely have the original strap and buckle. If it comes with the original buckle that would be a real bonus.
@Archer gave a lesson on rotor wear the other day, https://omegaforums.net/threads/thoughts-on-constellation-168-005-cal-564.69265/#post-872177
after hearing all the great advice, i have gathered enough courage (and enough funds) to pull the trigger on my first Omega! thanks to everyone who shared their time and advice!
