Shed a light to this salvaged beauty

Here is an omega constellation calendar. It was found during a house clearance and we don’t know much more about this. It would be great if someone could shed a light. The condition could be better, however the watch is functioning as it should.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If it is running fine it may be best to just enjoy it as found. Do you have a connection to the person named on the case back?

Indeed. No connection at all. Do you know much about this watch that maybe you could share? Also wood restoration and servicing be an option?

It could certainly be derived and cleaned to get it running well. The cost would be dependent on the state of the movement. There’s no way to restore the dial without trying to remove the lacquer (which has a good chance of a) ruining the dial, and b) it might not remove much of the mould) or simply repainting it, which will ruin the originality and cost money.

If you just want to cash out of it as you got it in a house clearance, simply sel as is. You won’t recoup the restoration costs when you sell.

If you’re thinking about keeping it to wear you can get it serviced and consider the options above. Personally, I wouldn’t get much joy out of it unless it had sentimental value so I’d just sell it and add some more cash to find a better one.

Thank you for your response. How much would a watch like this in this condition be worth to sell?

You’ll have to look at sold listings on eBay. Maybe 300 £/$

You have to look at sold listings on auction sites. Value is scrap, less than the sum of the parts.

I like these old rust rats. I bid low and spend high because there is always a part what cost more than the whole watch is worth. There are a lot more movements than cases, so It is best to get case and decent dial, otherwise it is a money pit.

With a new dial and a service I reckon it’d be a keeper, but finding a new dial could be tricky. I had a look at my local store and they have a number of dials for Constellations, but none for the calendar version.
